You do it every day. You'll do fine. You like things about yourself, teach them to be like that. You hate things about yourself, teach them to not do those things. Be involved with them, do things with them on their level, watch cartoons, have tea parties, build forts in the living room. Camp out in the back yard. Rake up the leaves and dive into them. Introduce them to everything you can that takes advantage of their talents, whether it be sports, music, hunting, or fishing but dont force it on them. Be disciplined though and set practical rules. Reward good behavior and punish bad. Know where your kids are and don't be afraid to error on the side of intrusivness. Give them hugs often and tell them you love them, often, even when they're 18. Celebrate their accomplishments and support them when they fail. Teach them based on your life experiences.I've been thinking about it a lot. But even now, it's daunting to think about whether or not you're good enough to shape the life of a child. I consider that such a great responsibility and even though I'm older now, I still fear screwing it up.
