I think there's probably some specific people that need to a better job recruiting. And some tweaking of some overall strategy.

Obviously I don't know what their board looks like. But I think if you get to the last weekend and you're reaching for positions of need like we were, something went sideways.

How did we not get Noah Cain on campus before now? How did we get that far in to bogles recruitment without accounting for the family tie issue? Was that time spent what maybe cost us eboigbe?

Siap regarding Brown and Anderson, and how they were handled.

Any way just some thoughts. I don't think it's the type of players we target. Had a lot more to do with "the how".

And obviously we have some really good recruiters... But they all need to be on the same page if they're going to get better results across the board.

I think CJP touched on this in his press conference by saying that they would look at quality control to see who signed for what reason and who didn't sign and why.
Yes he did. I was impressed that he addressed it. At least we know it's not lost on him that it needs to get better.

Like hubbs said. We have to recruit better and people will twist it anyway they can with the diamonds in the rough. We have to recruit better.

Say we didn't hear about those we thought we might be getting and didn't. I believe this thread would be full of gifs and celebration of a really good haul over all. Like some have pointed out add Gray, Wright, and Crouch and the rest who commit that fill out the limit, its a really a great class considering our season record and no bowl.

agree on UTep/Charlotte for UAB and BYU for WVU.

MSU really shouldn't be anywhere near as good as they were this year. and certainly not looked at like Auburn was this season, at least before it started anyway.

Missouri...getting KB sucks. so that's a ? for sure. Florida in the swamp...always tricky....we know what we get with that trip.

USCe, Vandy should be a push.

the schedule, on the whole, is easier. i could see 8-4....4-4 in the SEC.
6-6.

I am pretty excited about our DL class so far. I am sure part of it is wishful thinking, but Simmons is a perfect anchor in the middle. Savion is huge and was recruited by high level schools, plus he has 3 years. Middleton is a complete wild card. Had his head been on straight in HS he could have literally picked his school across America. I didn’t know he had missed the last two years until Pruitt said it. 6’7 280lbs and will probably play even larger. If he does get right the sky is the limit. Big if though.

My concern is a rush lb and lack of true sideline to sideline LB’s. I would like to add another HS DL, but I know numbers are limited.

I’m guessing all the people “not impressed” with early signing day would be hanging off the staff’s danglers if we came into today with like 5-7 commits and all of a sudden McCullough, Morris, Chris A, Keyton etc etc signed today out of nowhere. People would be singing in the streets “we went from the 40th class to top 15...Pruitt is a God! And we still can get Wright, Crouch, etc”

All a matter of perception
I’d be wondering what kind of incompetent coach goes into signing day with only 5-7 commits.

I mean it's possible. Certainly a lot of unknowns again.

I just don't see 6-7 bad matchups or stretches on the schedule that look as difficult as we've seen the last two years.

UGA, bama L's.
Uf, mo probable L's

Every other game is winnable.

I don't think Mississippi State is gonna drop off that much. Pretty unfavorable even if they're losing Simmons and Sweat off their DL.

Haha got a promotion at work and don't have as much time to goof off anymore. Moral of the story is post constantly on VN at work for about 10 months and you'll get promoted.
Congrats! And I can attest to this. I too have been promoted. However this Big Orange family will be moving to Chattanooga! I think we found a house in the Apison area. So if any volnation peeps can give any insight on "Gig City" I'd appreciate it.

Man, go look at the 2017 class...

Take trey smith out of it Bc he may not play anymore...

There is like 4 players making any kind of an impact on the field and one is a kicker.

I’m sorry for ever saying a good word about butch.
Price has talked about this many times. The 2016 and especially the 2017 class are why this rebuild is going to take years. I’m not going to judge Pruitt harshly until year 3...at least

I feel good about this class. We’ll add Gray tomorrow. By all accounts it seems that Crouch is signing with us on Friday. We are way out front for Wright. We add those guys we have the 2nd best class in the east and we still have several spots left to fill with some other big targets out there. This will be a really good class come February and better than the other classes in the east imo except for GA.
Yep

What really ****ing sucks is that the rich just keep on getting richer*

On its face, we need top-5 classes just to sniff their jocks. Therefore, a solid foundational class like the one we're signing (5 OL, multiple JUCO DL with 3 years' eligibility, plus 2 other DL) doesn't look all that impressive in comparison, even if it's exactly what we need.

That's one point, and the simplest one that I'm sure a lot of Rocky Top is feeling today. The asterisk below will be a counter point:

*Someone on r/cfb a few years ago (before they started sucking each others a$sholes for cheap fun) posted SEC attrition rates from 2002 through 2013. Basically if you didn't graduate or go pro a year early, it counted as attrition. Even the mighty Alabama saw attrition in the 30-40% range. LSU in their days of making hay, and USCe when they were finishing 10-2 under Spurrier saw attrition rates in the 40-50% range.

Not all of the monsters other schools are signing will stick. They'll add depth, for a while at least, but wait until the foundation gets a little crumbly in spots here and there. These teams (outside of Alabama and maybe UGA--- UGA is still a 'maybe') will always have an achilles heel.. Hell, Bama has an achilles heel as their kicking game, it just doesn't matter.

If we go slow and steady and keep overall attrition low ('low' being in the 25%-35% range), with this coaching staff and similar teachers as our current position coaches get plucked away for bigger jobs, we'll be okay. It's just going to take a few years. Like, Bailey should have a good squad as he assumes the role from JG as a true sophomore in 2021.

Enjoy the ride. We beat Auburn this year. Once we get on the right side of Vandy, Kentucky, and Carolina consistently, it'll get fun.
Attrition is key, you’re correct

Don't disagree with this. I followed our commits on Twitter today and not to much else. I did hear a couple guys on ESPN saying that Oregon and Florida killed it. Is that true or just ESPN love fest with the gators?
