You can color it that way, but the staff pressed for a lot of guys lately. AV predicted a few would be Vols. VQ mods were telling us to keep a close eye on some guys. Some even told the staff they were coming here (Anderson).
End of the day, we missed on everyone we were swinging on.

Except Crouch, Gray, and Wright?

Just think how upset you'd be if some of our commits flipped today like what happened to many schools around the country. Oooh man we'd be 100x more upset!!!!

and figurea was a reach as well considering the kid had never left his zip code until this past weekend.

i think this class so far has been some good and some bad. i think we're solid as you can get at OL and DB.

and i think we mismanaged LB, DL and WR.

Solid take... Atleast someone can think objectively.

Most people are either humping Pruitt's leg, or wanting to throw him off a cliff.

We should all know that, barring some aberration, we are in for a long climb back. We are SIGNIFICANTLY behind GA. We are losing ground to FL. Mehlen is a good coach, like it or not. Blame Currie for not reeling him in when he had a chance. Being agnostic, I think most recruits would see us as a “middle of the pack” SEC program. We just need to start by beating USCe and Mizzou in consecutive years. Ultimately we should be ecstatic with 7-5 next year. That is assuming we make a competent OC hire. Like most, if it’s not a “name coach” (e.g. Yurcich or Canada or Sark) then that will be more cause for concern. But let’s be honest, we all thought when we got Shoop the D was going to solid and for a myriad of reasons, that turned out to not be the case.

Can we be an elite program again? Yes. But its probably going to take baby steps:
  • Make a bowl (any bowl)
  • Beat 3 of 4 of the “rest of the SEC east” (Vandy, Mizzou, SC, KY) in consecutive years
  • Beat either GA or Bama every 3 years
Only then can we say we are "back"
there's a little more "poor me" in this for my taste, but in merit, i agree.
UGA and Bama are not our peer group right now, of the SEC teams on our schedule. everyone else is.

so i think you throw those 2 out for hte time being.

at some point Vand, KY need to get back to just being W's. USCe, MO should be "most of the time w's". UF should be a toss up game every year. and when 5-3 in the SEC becomes the floor again, then it's time to start looking at UGA and BAma.

What happened with FSU outside of the Howell flip?

Looks like 13 guys signed for them and they have a higher class average than us. What did I miss?
They missed on everyone and dont have the Wright, Crouch, Gray type players ahead. Today was their day and then it wasnt. alot went to Florida and some to tamu. which is a slap in the face for an fsu fan.

Never said it couldn't be worse.

Am saying today was disappointing based on all the smoke out there.

As homerific as you were in many threads, declaring a lot of these guys Vols, not sure how you don't somewhat feel the same way.

I am just talking about the talent and current roster we have compared to our rivals... They are signing better talent overall. Since you are looking at rankings, where have our recruiting rankings been the past 3yrs and what has that translated into on the field and at the end of the season with our records? I don't remember us competing for a SEC championship, or even a bowl the past few seasons... I am not angry at all, I am just tired of sunshine pumping and simply stating the facts from now on... So you think we who we are picking up this season compared to who we play on our schedule (and who they are picking up currently) that next season we will see a huge jump in our win vs loss column? Sure a few teams we play are losing their QB's (Mizz about to get upgraded), but this is not going to change anything drastically. We unfortunately need some top athletes in certain positions in order to take that next step and right now I don't think we have it. Maybe our staff will develop talent a little better than they are currently recruiting and in a few years we will be at another level. But for 2019, no, sorry...

Is it a fact that we are going 5-7 the next two years?

lol. yeah, it's not as bad as some would have you think. but it's not over the moon good either. it literally is what it is.

and we have 2 months to see what the actual finishd product will look like.

Speaking of hoops

This is a very solid midmajor team we play tonight. If you want some extra Christmas money bet on the visitors +22.5 tonight. I am
That does seem like a big line. Samford is 10-2. Also, no students in town and close to Christmas. I hope we come out focused.

I think next year will be better and this year's class still has room to sign to some good players. We'll wait and see where Gray, Crouch, and Wright decide to sign.
Hopefully more wins next season will show progress on the field and the staff will have another year to groom relationships with the recruits. The staff was behind on recruiting a lot of these guys that had been on the radar of other schools since they were freshmen and sophomores. I'm sure it was hard to overcome some of the existing relationships other coaching staffs had built with these guys. We will still be able to offer early playing time to many of them since some of the ones signing on today can be recruited over next year. At the end of the day, we signed a solid OL and are still in the hunt for some guys that should be able to contribute right away on defense.

They can't make up their mind on that because Hubbs says that, but Simonton declared for months that Brown was a Vol as soon as the staff gave him the green light.

Maybe the staff just liked Means more? You’re assuming they wish they had Brown based on stars. You don’t just fill spots on ESD. If we didn’t really like Means, we’d of made him wait and went after other WRs for the next couple of months.

If we land Wright/Crouch/Gray:

2019 Pruitt
2 5-stars
9 4-stars
13 3-stars
268.46 points
90.22 average
2007 Saban
0 5-stars
8 4-stars
16 3-stars
241.78 points
87.81 average

The fact that we're coming off 2-14 in the SEC the last two years and doing as well as we are is impressive. Even Saban didn't recruit like Saban coming off of his first 7-6 year.
The 90.22 average would also be the highest for us since 2009, we've majorly beefed up our biggest position of need at OL, added some JUCO stopgaps for the DL, and have gotten a solid player at every position on the field. Use this to solidify our place above Kentucky/Vandy/USCe/Mizzou and work from there.
Thanks for the post..I was really starting to get a little depressed.

Nah no reason to panic. It's solid enough assuming we get Crouch and Wright and Gray. Just gotta realize we are going to have to do better for the next few years to compete with the big boys in the SEC.

To hear Hubbs tell it, we didn't slow play Brown.
well we might not have.; ive thought about it beofre, but there was a point where i believed we would have taken his committment if he would have been and early signee. he hasn't signed with UNC yet either.

but either way, i do believe the reason he isn't/wasn't committed to TN is because we wouldn't take his committment, for whatever reason.

Are you suggesting with only go after ones we are sure we can get?
