Who is saying we whiffed? We missed on Ellis, but that was always going to be a tough sell he didn't want to leave Texas. I think we got who we thought we were going to sign.
Sort of feel like we slow played a LOT of guys and whiffed. This aint Bama, FSU, or Georgia. We aren't in the position to do that stuff. Now we will not have a top 10 class.

Basilio said pruitt wont be happy with them for our DL snd LB recruits. Not they were on the verge of getting fired
When did Basillio start running the AD or Football program.....Furthermore, why does he have more insight into the program than any others......Just an idiot statement......verge no way.....

Why do you count just Ellis when we've gone all in on Eboigbe, Anderson, made runs at Figurealiaonoa, Cain, Marshall, Payton, etc....

Eboigbe cancelled his official visit with us last week and went to Bama instead - that was never happening.
Anderson was a longtime commit to S.Carolina and never officially visited Tennessee
Cain was a last min visit and Penn St was considered a long time leader

We landed on everyone we thought except Ellis and he was a backup plan.

Everyone needs to relax. We got trolled a little bit last night and that has taken the air out of the room today. We are still in great shape, and we have a number of available spots to fill at the Feb. signing date (or before). This will still be a top 10 class.

You can color it that way, but the staff pressed for a lot of guys lately. AV predicted a few would be Vols. VQ mods were telling us to keep a close eye on some guys. Some even told the staff they were coming here (Anderson).
End of the day, we missed on everyone we were swinging on.

and figurea was a reach as well considering the kid had never left his zip code until this past weekend.

i think this class so far has been some good and some bad. i think we're solid as you can get at OL and DB.

and i think we mismanaged LB, DL and WR.

yep. and i'm not sure what to think about the "reporting".....

i get it that guys are told stuff, and they just pass on what htey're told. i just don't know though.

there was a lot of "wrong" about today, from pretty much everyone....which is what i think is so weird...

i think at this point, the trolling should be pretty easy to spot. and it was pointed out by several people.

Why were people thinking recruits who have never OV’d to Knoxville were in play?

Most of the guys we “whiffed” on were never realistic in the 1st place.

I think Anderson was the only guy we thought we were getting and went elsewhere

i wouldn't say a lot.

Anderson and Brown for sure. and it backfired. not sure who else would really fall in to that category?

Yep. Kids want attention so they pretend to be flipping or considering flipping to other schools right near signing day.

We should all know that, barring some aberration, we are in for a long climb back. We are SIGNIFICANTLY behind GA. We are losing ground to FL. Mehlen is a good coach, like it or not. Blame Currie for not reeling him in when he had a chance. Being agnostic, I think most recruits would see us as a “middle of the pack” SEC program. We just need to start by beating USCe and Mizzou in consecutive years. Ultimately we should be ecstatic with 7-5 next year. That is assuming we make a competent OC hire. Like most, if it’s not a “name coach” (e.g. Yurcich or Canada or Sark) then that will be more cause for concern. But let’s be honest, we all thought when we got Shoop the D was going to solid and for a myriad of reasons, that turned out to not be the case.

Can we be an elite program again? Yes. But its probably going to take baby steps:
  • Make a bowl (any bowl)
  • Beat 3 of 4 of the “rest of the SEC east” (Vandy, Mizzou, SC, KY) in consecutive years
  • Beat either GA or Bama every 3 years
Only then can we say we are "back"

there was some pretty decent chatter from some pretty reputable people talking up both Anderson and Eboigbe.

in the end, the tangibles (no OV, visiting elsewhere last week etc...) should have been the bigger keys. but when you got guys at tos saying "keep an eye on this", that ususally means they've been told something?

maybe they can do a better job of discerning what to do wiht that informaiton? but i can see why people were getting a little excited. heck i was one of them for eboigbe. i fought it as long as i could but you got Bama sources on 247 saying it's possible as well as our guys...........it's easy to thing "ok, i could see that happening".

the prospect's social media....i think no one should ever pay attention to that stuff ever again. lol. it's full of lies and indiscretions.
:)

But that's the key to self-immolation or elite trolling: failure to meet (what should be) an unreasonable expectation. It's science.
