I think there are 3 possible hurdles we are running into:
1) too many people involved / have to approve the hire and it makes us slow to offer
2) we are putting too many stipulations on the candidates and it’s scaring them away (must fit scheme, must run Pruitt’s version of offense, must be fine with personnel already on staff, etc)
3) our reputation has been affected by Helton in some way. Aka he is spreading the word that he couldn’t run his own offense.

If it is #2 or #3 that doesn’t bode well for Pruitt imo. People were upset that Butch didn’t let Shoop bring his own guys and install his system, and if Pruitt is doing the same thing with the offense, that’s bad.

All opinion, and all probably wrong lol

Weinke is looking to leave for sure.

I think all the defensive guys are happy here, but what happens if a school calls to see if Charles Kelly is interested in their DC job? I don’t know.

I think something to remember is that the early signing day will impact coaching moves unlike years past. I think after next Wednesday we see moves of coaches that typically would have happened right after the season was over, but for recruiting purposes those coaches have been retained until after ESD (I.e. TN RB coach last year) I think it will open up the pool quite significantly.

It will be interesting to see who, if any, names we stay hearing at the end if next week. I will say I agree with Hank about you (ADand HC) being 95% on someone middle of last week, but then still fly in 3 to interview last Friday. If the 95% is true that's a bad look, they know you were wasting their time...that's why I have trouble with the whole 20/80 to thing DM mentioned on Tuesday. Seems to be a " cover my a$$ " by DM.

They didn't fly them in

Me too. When you scratch past the surface I bet you could narrow down typical hires to a list of about 10 known guys. There are some coaches that will go left field with hires (Dooley) but I think a lot of HC's are realtively predictable with their hires. I think Pruitt is one of those.

I bet you're right, or at least you'd probably be able to figure out that rarely HCs make hires that are more than 1 to 2 degrees of separation away.

Wouldn't they know that before hand since the comments were made before they met?

You are 100% right on this. Starting next Thursday position coaches all over the country will be interviewing and on the move. ESD has changed how position coaches move unless they are moving up into DC or OC

In case you guys missed it. Vols signed the #1 class already.

Softball.

I'm not gonna knock our sofvols. I don't know why but college softball is fun as hell to watch. I don't seek it out but the times I've seen it on at a sports bar, restaurant, etc. I've found myself glued to action. They're on a whole other level than what you see in k-12 or church/community softball.

EDITED: Good Lord, I made a ton of silly typos in the original version of this post (probably still making them). Time for me to finally get glasses.

It would not surprise me if we have a couple of assistant coaches who are going to move after signing day, which might change the landscape of the OC hire.

If that is true, doesn't it make sense that Pruitt may have identified his OC hire and he is also waiting until after signing day? Why would it not work both ways? Why would some of our coaches wait until after signing day?

It's honestly better to watch than baseball. Softball is played at a faster pace.

The girls actually put in as much work as the boys and play more games than the boys do when they're coming up.

Exactly, that is why Doug starting relaying that those were just "pick their brain sessions". Interviewing three other candidates two days after you had your 95% made no sense otherwise. As has been said coaching is a tight fraternity, and if you have your 95% and are confident enough to "allow" DM to go on radio and say it, and then you turn around and do those interviews, you'd definately burn some bridges with a lot of coaches. So either DM was told they had their 95% at some point prior to last week, and that blew up (Freeze perhaps?), or they (Fulmer) planted a fake news story on the 95% to relax the fan base, while they went out to conduct the real "post Freeze" search.

I absolutely agree. I wish baseball would adapt to that pace (I find baseball hard to watch on tv - love going to games because you're getting a full experience and environment but it just doesn't translate outside of the stadium to me).
