Sounds like they are in a holding pattern waiting to formally talk to someone they can't right now.
I think what you said is spot on. We’re not waiting to “hire” a coach, i.e., a deal is done. We’re waiting until more coaches feel comfortable spending time interviewing during the recruiting dead period.

No way we are waiting on a coach that has time to interview in the dead period.
That's just not reasonable imo

This is pure speculation, but it would be worrisome if some of the issue finding the right “fit” is if Pruitt is telling these guys they have to put a governor on their offense like he told Helton. So when they kind of push back a little on that he scratches them off the list.

Again, I don’t know that to be the case. Just thinking out loud.

I remember early in the year, maybe even before the season, Pruitt answered a question about the offensive scheme with an almost braggadocios line of “I’m the head coach, I have the ultimate say on what we do.” Which, of course, is true. Just wonder if that’s rubbing people the wrong way.
well, you can certainly argue that point, if for no other reason that just lack of other, actual, information.

the only thing i'd say to that is when you do consider who he has spoken with, formally or not, they all have sytles/philosophies that don't scream power run, pro style, pocket QB. he's tlaked to spread, spread tempo, air raid etc....

siap, but i think the attention on 'style' is simply not warranted. i think a lot of guys have basic fundamental philosophies rooted in those concepts, but all of them want to be able to do what they want to do, when they want to do it. slow down when you need to, speed up when you need to, power when you need it, spread 'em out and create space....etc.

you get hte idea. how you do all that can vary, but at the core, on offense it's about scoring points, and stressing the other team.

so, i think you kinda go in to it with an open mind on "style", and really spend more time focusing on can this guy fit iwht the staff, and buy in to what we're doing here.

This is my feel. I think he knows who he wants and can get if he waits. However he is taking advice of everyone that tells him to talk to as many people as you can and learn things. You never know who might show up and blow you away that you could get earlier. This is how he got the job at Hoover that started his career. Probst already knew who he would hire but still interviewed everyone he wanted to talk to in case someone could change his mind. Pruitt did that.

Yep

That was tongue in cheek. I’ve never even listened to him. I just think what he’s saying doesn’t make even a microscopic bit of sense.

It does and doesnt. I'm 50/50 on it. Usually if he doesn't know he just says he doesn't know. I see both sides the "protecting Fulmer side" and the he is telling truth side. I think he would protect Fulmer but I don't think he would take it as far as he is going as to discredit himself and I don't think Fulmer would do that to him.

Imo if it turns out to be a McClendon, Yurchich, Long, internal hire, or NFL guy then I think DM could be telling truth. Those are guys that are loyal to sticking through ESD for the coach that gave them a chance. More so Mac and Yurchich. Internal causing fan negativity that could hurt recruiting right before signing day.

If it's some random college guy mcgoogle then probably was bs

Wait.....

You have never listened to him but what he says doesn't make sense??

This one takes the cake

Bruin, i know context clues are tricky but let me help you bud.

Doug’s famous take about 95% done and him doubling down have been regurgitated about 542 times now. Also, there is this crazy thing called the internet where you can find recaps of what radio people have said.

Hope that helps.

I would love to see a social network analysis of this.
Me too. When you scratch past the surface I bet you could narrow down typical hires to a list of about 10 known guys. There are some coaches that will go left field with hires (Dooley) but I think a lot of HC's are realtively predictable with their hires. I think Pruitt is one of those.

The only thing I would differ on is that he feels pretty good about where he's going. So in that sense he's not really "searching" either.

I don't think it will happen but the guy I wish we would land is Streeter.

Young, great recruiter, experience on big stage, dynamic offense, OC experience at Richmond were he set records, and he fits a narrative of waiting.
