Yay! Found y'all!

I looked into Friend's coaching history and realized just how few SEC coaches he and Pruitt has really directly worked with or under. Friend was under Bobo for basically all of his career. Bobo essentially is his career.

That alone could shine some insight into the offense we saw trying to be implemented this year. It looked alot like a poor attempt at a 2013 Bobo offense. Versus the Helton USC air attack I think we would have expected.

Add to that most of their connections are already in HC roles (Kiffin & Bobo) or deeply rooted (Enos) to where they are. That would make a really shallow pool to go casting nets for coordinator.

That is not to say they don't have much wider circles of contacts and influences, but their paths are so narrow that one could assume it might have an effect.

The fact Friend is obviously close to Pruitt and a former coordinator, but he isn't in the role would open the question does he have input and to what extent? Why isn't he the coordinator?

I went down the line of thinking above based on reports that Pruitt took some current staff to the recent coaching interviews and based on some of La Vol's comments.

I am wondering if Friend might be Pruitt's Asst HC and Offensive Analyst type person. Similar to the title Butch got going to MD.

Jeremy Pruitt’s search for an offensive coordinator continues, although it’s certainly at a crawl right now with all the focus on the final recruiting weekend before the early signing day.

We know that Pruitt has formally spoken to four candidates. Hugh Freeze is now the head coach at Liberty. Kendal Briles is not an option. While Briles’ deal at FSU is not finalized, many feel he will still end up there, but he’s definitely not a factor with the Vols. Jeff Lebby has told people he’s not a factor and isn’t coming to Tennessee either.

That leaves Oklahoma State’s Mike Yurcich as the fourth guy who Pruitt has spoken with. Yurcich has told people, including staff members at Oklahoma State, that he’s staying put.

Sources say Tennessee gauged the interest of Neal Brown, the head coach at Troy, but he wants to be a head coach.

So the million dollar question is where does Pruitt go now? Is it an NFL guy? Does he have a coach lined up and is waiting to announce it after signing day? Is he reshuffling the deck so to speak? Reshuffling the deck is not accurate in that it gives the appearance that Pruitt doesn’t have any names in mind. We believe he does, but also don’t think anything is “done” and it’s must a matter of timing. We will see. This week, information has been pretty sparse in part because things have slowed down and in part because Tennessee is trying to limit the information getting out there. They weren’t comfortable with all the details of last week being made public.

Refs blew that game. Quality of officiating gets worse and worse. Between the rule changes and horrible officiating it’s almost unbearable to watch NFL football anymore. Add to that all the sociopolitical bull crap...

And those dang kids always getting on your lawn!

Lol if you trace the Mark Richt coaching tree (Bobo) you can find Neil Callaway. Neil worked with Richt until 2006 as OC/OL and landed UAB HC job until 2011. Guess who worked with Callaway at UAB - Tyson Helton.

They also worked together at WKU and USC.

History may not repeat itself but I think Friend's offensive ties may have helped us decide Helton last time.

I would be looking for ties to Friend and Richt/Bobo circle for our next OC.

My guess of who they likely targeted.

2015 role @ UGA
Bryan McClendonWide Receivers/Recruiting Coordinator/Passing Game Coordinator

Connections - was with UGA when Pruitt was. Coached under Brian Schottenheimer who is firmly out of our league since he is having a good season with Seahawks.

Works under a defensive minded coach. Doesn't have control of QB's (Werner does).

Fits Matthews narrative but not AV's

No idea why we wouldn't leak and or announce though.

Personally Pruitt is creating his own issue by not allowing any OC choice to bring in help to install the OC’s system.i understand friendship but you was hired to do a job and turn around a program, stepping on friends toes should be the least of his worries,he honestly can’t expect anyone to take this job without allowing the OC to bring in his people to install his choice of offense,it’s just not going to work like that,we all seen how shoop turned out taking this job without bringing his own people. The “narrative” of the perfect fit will never happen with this track of thinking it’s just common sense pruitt is naive.
Agreed. CJP's should be focused on making decision without regards to whether or not hes being loyal to Friend.

every single one a spread(1) or an airraid guy (4)

also publicly refuting Matthews assertion with the "done" comment
After our last coaching search, I'll trust Mathews for radio entertainment and Hubbs for all things recruiting.
I don't give either more attention than VN posters when it comes to searches or talent evaluation.
But they're great at what they actually do and know.
