It’s not “automatically”. Austin Thomas was on the road for LSU and their DL coach stayed home.

He very well may be able to. I just don't think a guy who's never been a coach at the college level, let alone an OC, being hired by a guy who had never been a HC at the college level, who was hired by a guy who had never been an AD at any level is a very good combination. I am still hoping it's a seasoned guy with college coaching experience.

It’s someone on staff of one of the playoff teams. ND or Clemson most likely. Will announce after ESD

Possible reasons for waiting: Can you think of others?
1. After Dead Period. Possible announcement on 12-17.
2. After ESD. Possible announcement on 12-22.
3. Still coaching Bowl/ Playoffs Games. Possible announcement now till 1-8-2019.
4. Coaching in high school. Possible announcement is now.
5. Coaching in NFL. Possible announcement is now through playoff elimination to all the way to the Super Bowl on February the 3rd.

Most of this is not likely, but it looks like the announcement could be as early as now to as late as January the 8th. I know this is obvious, but just throwing this out there.

I can't even begin to say how stupid it sounds for someone to say "we hired someone already but are still giving interviews just to waste our time as well as the candidates who believe they are interviewing for a job that has already been filled".
