Kamara, Hurd, and Kelly are just as good if not better than any 3RBs at any school while he was here. You can say he’s replaceable which i disagree with but we have downgraded. London was bad and Banks can’t hold on to the ball so far. Those are with weinke
Our backs were pretty bad in pass protection this year, too. If we don’t land Noah Cain, Weinke has been below average hire.

I’m not just talking about the process. The season was a disappointment and so was last year’s recruiting class. There are a lot of reasons to be skeptical.

I believe he’s a great defensive mind and I can see how he could be a great HC. But he’s not now and that will come with time. I love how he demands excellence and hard work from the team even though it wasn’t always evident on the field this year. Which is a culture issue he’s trying to chance.
I’ll wait and judge his recruiting after this class is finished but it’s a little underwhelming so far. I like the guys we’re in on but I need to see us close some of the big boys out.

Whether it’s winning games or recruiting, they both are going to require something that none of us want to give him which is time. At the very least, I hope he can fill the cupboard full of talented, hard-working, TN loving athletes. If he does that, the “next” guy won’t have it as hard. I just pray he IS the guy.

oh, i thought we were just talking this coaching search specifically.

expanding it out, yeah, i get that too.

I go back to my post from several days ago....when Mike Debord and Jim Chaney were hired as OC they were "underwhelming" hires and both proved to be really good offensive coordinators for Tennessee and Chaney is proving it elsewhere now. IMO Tennessee doesn't have to have a SPLASH hire in this position, but rather they need someone with play calling experience, an ability to develop a position (preferrably QB) and fit with this staff.

You are naive if you don't think opposing coaches are using this against us with offensive players, defensive players, even other candidates for the offensive coordinators job. This is a cut throat business and other coaches use whatever they can to place doubt in a recruit' s mind. Stability is a huge factor for any recruit and if you can portray a shaky situation at a place you're recruiting against, it huge factor. That's why it's crucial for coach Pruitt show improvement next year. If he doesn't opposing coaches will be breaking out the hot seat talk.

Doesn't seem to affect Gus?

Just because you’re a great coordinator doesn’t mean that translates to being a head coach at all. It has nothing to do with losing the games. It’s the way his team completely quit. Blame the players all you want but that falls back on the coach too.

Also he hired Helton and couldn’t get a long with him. He ran him off whether that is for better or worse.

He also fired Gillespie is a better recruiter and RB coach than Weinke.

I’m not saying I’m done with Pruitt or i don’t think he can win but he has to be better for us to win games. What he’s done so far isn’t cutting it.

Quitting is on the players..period. Pruitt may be a lot of things...a weak hearted quitter ain't one of em.

Different and better coaches...same weak arse roster. Nobody can get anything out of somebody that doesn't want to compete.

How could you tell? Because they didn’t take up the slack for the OL in front of them? Gillespie was the RB’s coach in 2014, right?

It’s what led to think of how perception around here has shifted since after the KY game.

Those two closing losses, loss of recruiting momentum and a drawn out OC search have really flipped this fan base
Not unfairly, in my view. Pruitt hasn’t done anything to demonstrate he’s clearly better than the last guy.

I mean, justifiably so though.

To me the recruiting issues are much more worrisome. Can’t keep kicking the can down the road - at some point you have to out-recruit what the results on the field justify.

yep.

and we aren't helping ourselves around here by seeking out every crumb of informaiton we can get our hands on to. we feed off each others' comments and speculation..and it is all speculation..

it would appear that after all the talk of "no year zero", we did in fact have, and are still in, year zero.

@revjayp hit the nail on the head. the one thing he and fulmer need the most of, is the one thing we want to give the least of.....time.

Let me preface by saying that, although I am generally an optimist, missing a bowl because we laid down vs Missouri and Vandy and recent misses on the recruiting front aren’t a good look. But I don’t think things are nearly as bad as they’re being made out to be on the coaching search. Based on reported facts vs rumors it seems to have gone like this...

Round 1: Hugh Freeze is it. I think information came to light about Freeze and UT elected to pass. The fact that the dirtiest program in the country, Auburn, also took a pass tells me we probably made the right choice.

Round 2: Briles, Lebby, and Yurcich. Briles has a lot of strikes against him: black eye from scandal, no playbook, and gonna have to let him bring a couple of guys to get him away from an already sweet deal in Houston. There’s probably even more considering FSU hasn’t hired him yet. Pruitt and co. likely decided he’s not worth the trouble. Lebby not qualified. The ball is in Yurcich’s court, if he turns us then it’s on to round 3.

Looking at all this, I don’t think a bunch of people have told Pruitt no. I think we passed on one, couldn’t meet the demands of another, and are waiting on word from Yursich. Maybe he was offered Monday and given 48 hours to decide, who knows?

I think it’s apparent from the candidate list that has gone public that Pruitt is looking to go with an up tempo spread type offense, which may be out of his element and why a lot of more traditional pro style guys that seem to have obvious connnections may not have even been approached. I do find it very hard to believe that we would be going around interviewing guys just for fun if we’ve had our guy in the bag or even 95% in the bag.

Not unfairly, in my view. Pruitt hasn’t done anything to demonstrate he’s clearly better than the last guy.
Except beat two ranked teams in year one with one of the worst rosters in the SEC, one of those wins being an SEC west team on the road, something intern Jones never did. If I’m not mistaking, Pruitt needs one win over a ranked team to equal the interns total in his 5 years here.

Not to mention he’s been a championship coordinator which is more than anything the intern has on his resume

I can’t believe some fans are frustrated after 10 years of sucking and getting beat by 25 against Vanderbilt. Gmafb

The coach worshipping fan shamers are the worst. Keep being blindly optimistic if you want, but there’s nothing wrong with pointing out flaws and showing concern after year 1.

I find it hard to believe if there is a cut and dry rule of no inteeciews that hoax could take place. Remember the reports
Of the interview came from
Seasoned NFL reporters that would know such rules

My guess is there are rules in place for NFL teams to not be able to interview other nfl
Coaches but that college isn't managed
A lot of people don't think that actually happened. Was helping his friend make it look like a good job with the view of an NFL guy wanting it. If he had interviewed he would have been interested and ga tech would have hired him
