Just because you’re a great coordinator doesn’t mean that translates to being a head coach at all. It has nothing to do with losing the games. It’s the way his team completely quit. Blame the players all you want but that falls back on the coach too.

Also he hired Helton and couldn’t get a long with him. He ran him off whether that is for better or worse.

He also fired Gillespie is a better recruiter and RB coach than Weinke.

I’m not saying I’m done with Pruitt or i don’t think he can win but he has to be better for us to win games. What he’s done so far isn’t cutting it.
I’ve always believed in life, sports, etc. the second year that you’re in a job is when you really take a step forward. So I’ll give Pruitt that same benefit. Head coach is a tough job and he hadn’t done it before. He’ll get better solely on experience.

No one NATIONALLY gives a **** about our coordinator search. Lots of stories out there and I don’t see any dedicated to UNC plucking away Ole Miss’s playcaller.

I know they don't care, but they still have an opinion. Just beginning to look bad. FTR, I support CJP taking time to get it right, just hope it doesn't go passed ESD.

Are we STILL debating Helton? He is gone you know? He went to WKU where he will no doubt succeed running the type of offense he wants to run. Helton couldnt do much here at Tennessee because we have bad players. Thats it. There is a reason why Bama can plug in any, literally any, OC in the country & have a top 5 offense - they have better players. GIve it a rest on the Helton hate.

Doubtful he succeeds at WKU a lot more to fix there other then the offense.

You can rest assured that other coaches are using this against us on the recruiting trail. Whether warranted or not, Kirby, Gus, Muschamp, Saban are all saying that no one wants to work for Pruitt or Pruitt is on a sinking ship. The optics to the outside are not good.

Honestly asking....why is all this embarrassing? Who do we know for an absolute fact that has been interviewed? I think we all I have a good idea and if we had to bet we would get most of them right, but nothing official has come from the university. All we have is media members throwing stuff against the wall to appease the fan base.

I listen to national sports radio every morning and literally nobody is talking about it other than in the context of all other openings right now. Nobody is saying “Tennessee is screwing this up and being incompetent”. I think a lot of this is just us fans worrying what others think.

The wait sucks, for sure. But I’m holding off on the embarrassing and frustrating feelings until I see who it is. Would rather be right than quick with this.
It isn't embarrassing. No one outside of Tennessee fans even know that we are hiring an OC, except maybe some SEC die hard fans. No one is talking about this outside of Tennessee.

It was the same way with the AD search that ended up with Currie. Everyone thought that was a national embarrassment when virtually no one even knew we were hiring an AD.

This could go on for months and no one outside of Tennessee fans would care or even know.

I think he got better throughout the year. He had one mismanaged game and never made that mistake again. I would assume that is learning from his mistakes.

I expect a better fielded Tennessee team in 2019.

No, it's not embarrassing nationally. It's only embarrassing folks like you with a "me me me now now now" mindset and no patience. We all want a new OC hired asap but ASSUMING Pruitt doesn't know what he's doing or that he's striking out left and right is ridiculous. Stop with the weak mindset. Stop caring about what others think.

95% of Volnation takes offense to the tough love.

So you're gonna have one foot out the door on arguably the best defensive mind in College Football right now, after losing 2 games with a crappy team in his first year EVER as a HC, and not hiring an OC you want in the timeline you want? Seems logical...

I'd rather Pruitt hire someone he's comfortable with and we will have some continuity with, than another Helton situation.
“Yeah, Butch. Go ahead and fire Pittman and hire Mahoney. We just want you to be comfortable.”

Just like The Sopranos!

Good thing we are mostly recruiting defensive players then right? Lol who are they negatively recruiting against us for? Eric Grey and Haselwood? Who else? Lol we aren’t really targeting many offensive players that we don’t have on lock already.

Thanks for setting me straight Ron...……….I'm OK now. :)

Why isn't there a word for "the next year from this year" the way "tomorrow" means "the next day from today?"

Gus saying that is ironic

Just because it's an offensive coach doesn't mean opposing coaches won't use that on my defensive player. They sell it as a systemic problem, how Pruitt as not being ready for the primetime. If you don't think they're using the optics of this against us, you're not looking very hard.

I'm OK with it to a point. I just believe that some sports followers are looking at this and laughing, especially the SEC. The perception may be hurting us with future hires. "No one wants to go there" kinda thing.

I read complaints on this very board about Gillespie every year. In 5 recruiting classes that he was actively involved in, we pulled in 4 four star or above level RB’s...and Derrell Scott was a stretch. This wasn’t Bama or UGA level or even Florida level recruiting at the position...he was replaceable.

The offense has no need to know who it's coach will be. The offense needs to lift.
