Probably won't be close game this yr but I think they've made the right hire too. Penny has signed 2 5 stars so far for 2019 with 1 being the number 1 player in the nation.. I lived in Memphis for 20 yrs and was there when Penny played, the city loves him..
I think it will be close. We are the target that Memphis is gunning for. They want us.

If Tennessee comes ready to play this is not going to be a problem. Memphis is going to have a hard time scoring. Tennessee wins by 15-20.
My prediction also. Alexander and Pons will have their season highs.

John Martin, a local Memphis radio personality, is writing a long column for The Athletic documenting the game 10 years ago and the impact it made. He interviewed players and coaches from Memphis and Tennessee, including Cal, Pearl, Chism, Dorsey, Prince, etc.

Just thinking of that game gives me goose bumps. That was a fun time.

It will be a tough one. We finitely have a target on our back, and Tiger High will show up ready to play, as they should.
Yeah I agree. The best case has laid out for Memphis IMO. Vols coming off a huge win getting a big bump in the ratings and unless Memphis gets a lot better (I guess they could) as the season rolls on THIS IS THEIR NCAA TOURNAMENT. Vols better be ready to scrape and claw for 40 minutes because no matter what the UM fans says they’d hate to lose to the Vols more than anyone on their schedule. I have a close family friend who I’ve known since birth on their staff and I’m sure he’s dreading this game. His dad and I have been to many Vols games together over the years but I guess he’ll pull for his son this one time. I’ll be there pulling hard for the Vols!

From the Commercial Appeal Sunday article: Hardaway's Tigers Already Moving on to Tennessee (before our Gonzaga win)

"It's going to be a problem," Hardaway said. "Right now they are ranked (seventh) in the nation, and they've already played Kansas and had Kansas beat. ...They are just relentless, they go for 40 minutes."
The Volunteers rank inside KenPom's top 20 teams in offensive efficiency, defensive efficiency and rebounds per game. They split the SEC regular-season title with Auburn last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before being upset by Loyola Chicago.

But Hardaway certainly feels better about the matchup than he did two weeks ago when Memphis lost two of three games on its trip to the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando.
Hardaway feels good enough about it that he's giving his team two days off to study for final exams this week.
Memphis' previous schedule, which featured five teams ranked inside KenPom's top 100 and included Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, LSU and Yale, was the Tigers' study guide for the test on the court.

"Tennessee is its own monster within itself," Hardaway said. "But playing those teams, there's not a 'wow' factor with how big they are going to be, how fast they are going to be, or how physical they are going to be."
Not even for 5-foot-9, 150-pound Tyler Harris, who is leading the Tigers in scoring and 3-point shooting this season.
"We know it's going to be a big game, the crowds going to be into it," Harris said. "But we can't play any different. We have to stay within ourselves."

Certainly his recruiting is not the issue. In fact if he didn’t get those two you’re referring to then it would have been bad. The question all along that will have to be answered is his coaching. IDK maybe he can. But the university was in a position that they simply HAD to hire him and pray it works out. If it doesn’t then it’ll be ugly like the Finch deal. Only time will tell.

Exactly. He’s not a proven coach. But the fans are expecting instant success, starting next year. He has surrounded himself with experienced assistants, but coaching the game is a lot different than playing it. He will have to grow.

Will be a tough game. Memphis would love to give us a black eye. The good part is that this team doesn’t have a cocky bone in their body. Bunch of good, grounded kids. I never thought I’d like a Tennessee b-ball team as much as the 2007 crew but it’s happening.

UT has it's identity....tough and physical. With Pons getting the extra minutes maybe because of Turner's slower-than-expected recovery it seems they've only gotten better. They're not content with how they played Kansas. I hope they start putting teams away early and keep them put away down the stretch. I don't like this team when it get's relaxed or let's up. It's not their style at all.

Man I agree...this team is sooooo much better when its aggressive and locked in (what team isn't right?). But without having the natural out of high school one and doner superstar that can take a game over (not discounting what Admiral did yesterday) we have to play gritty and smart. And CRB is best I've seen at making them do that. He's in their face and constantly reminding them to play hard. Just like he told Bowden the last four minutes...lock him down and don't let him score...and he did...I do love the way this team plays but one criticism is our lack of consistency within 4 feet of the basket. Any throw the drives to the basket in there too. We just seem to misplay so many of those balls without finishing strong at the hole. And multiple times yesterday our bigs brought the ball down several unadvised times without just going up...Fun team for sure...

There was a stretch of 6 or 7 minutes when we had lots of short shots that just didn't go in. It looked like during that span, Gonzaga was probably getting away with some hacking, physicality, etc. and maybe Tennessee, too. Some games they call that, but this game they didn't, except for a few touch fouls late.
