I am going to turn your frown upside down....but if I deliver you have to promise to stop bitching (by making negative posts) and just enjoy the wins and not focus on the negative things in relation to TN football and recruiting.

Its not ESD today and it sure as hell isn't feb signing period yet either...and the ink ain't dry till its dry son.

I know I’m not supposed to even hint at anything other than total loyalty to whatever AV condescends to share with us peasants...

But...
You ain’t really saying anything here that every other VN poster hasn’t said... “it ain’t over”.

Simply put:

Spin it however you want, Butch had two consensus top 7 recruiting classes. He did this after lean years. He underachieved with them in the field.

Pruitt isn’t going to match that this year. Can he coach up what he has? We shall see.

I haven't been following very closely but why all the doom and gloom? Have we missed on some recruits? If so who is out?

When Pruitt came in there were two things he had to be very good at, recruiting and developing. You could possibly get away with just one of these things it you were excellent at it.

Early returns indicate Pruitt is not going to be an excellent developer or talent but he could surprise me. So that leaves recruiting, middle of the pack SEC classes aren't going to get him there. So where does this leave us? At this point I'm not sure but I think we have a much better understanding of what we have in a coach at the end of next season. I'm hoping for improvement.

Isn't it too soon to decide this one way or the other?

Botch was trash, next subject please

If you find yourself (already) questioning Pruitt's ability to recruit then remember that 1) he used a lot of guys from the previous staff, 2) he only has 1 class under his belt, 3) the class he did bring in he only had a month to solidify and sort through. I just can't seen how someone can go through all of that and begin guessing Pruitt's ability to recruit. The recruits will come when we start winning more than 5 games a season (Pruitt is the biggest reason we didn't lose any more games than we did this year). This isn't year 0, but Pruitt's has done a fine job for a coach so far. He knows it isn't year 0. He doesn't mess around. He's not about any of that. Far from it.

Also for reference, first full classes:

Nick Saban - 2007 (Off of 7-6):
Rivals - 10th, 3.28 average star. 0 5-stars, 10 4-stars, 12 3-stars
247 - 12th, 87.81 rating. 0 5-stars, 8 4-stars, 16 3-stars
Jeremy Pruitt - 2019 (Off of 5-7):
Rivals - 12th, 3.45 average star. 0 5-stars, 9 4-stars, 11 3-stars
247 - 15th, 89.65 rating. 1 5-star, 7 4-stars, 12 3-stars.
(Goes to 8th, 90.23 rating. 2 5-stars, 8 4-stars, 12 3-stars with Gray/Wright)
So for anyone getting antsy because Pruitt's recruiting has disappointed, I'm going to reiterate that it's difficult to recruit to a team before making significant improvement. Not trying to imply that Jeremy is going to match Saban in recruiting, but he's been given a worse situation and his first full class matches up very well with what Saban did in year one from a ranking perspective, even without the HC experience.

Let him get his first solid classes, build a foundation, and we'll see the upside in recruiting once the results start to come in.
Thank you for this, 410. However, at the very moment some of these guys and gals start to feel a little bit better by what you've posted, they will suddenly realize that it's been a little over 35 seconds since they last *itched about something, and move on from it.

Nonsense...
Kirby had great talent when he arrived with a winning program..he had a proven track record of recruiting well at another school and he had a fan base that was rabid for change. Throw in the fact Kirby had a large network of boosters already in place to throw bags around at a feverish pace since Richt had never been too keen on that hence why he was never an elite recruiter. You have the perfect storm for what has happened at UGA.

Great respect for you AV, but the fact is Richt NEVER recruited at this level. Smart is reeling in Top Two classes and appears to be set to do so for a while. His only real competition is Saban and Alabama.

Whatever the reason(s), some of which you have outlined, it isn't nonsense. They are sucking the air out of the room in the southeast.

Again, thank you for what you bring to Vol Nation.

Let's be honest, the Vandy loss has really hurt recruiting. Plain and simple. On the field results matter. We needed to close with 6-6 and a bowl and didn't get it done.

Next season we must get to 7 wins or more to start some momentum.

I agree with this. The UK win created a perception that the program was headed in a positive direction, and we got a really nice bounce from that. There was a lot of positive buzz and lots of recruits suddenly interested in us again. Unfortunately, that bounce was wasted when we rolled over against mediocre Mizzou and Vandy teams.
