VQ podcast says staff struggling with timing of visits and when to push for kids. Such as Marshall, Grayson kids, Anderson, etc.

Hard to read in light of it being a “recruiting staff.”

Don't get me wrong, there are some posters that freak out over offering 3 star kids. However, I think context matters. VQ, 247, and others are out there saying how we are in good shape with players like Pappoe and Marshall. A few days later, both look like long shots while we are giving out new offers to 2019 kids at the same position. You don't start offering guys in the same class at the same position this late in the game if you're confident in where you sit with the better, highly sought-after guys. IMO, it goes without saying that Pappoe and Marshall appear to be better prospects than Brown and Brothers.

I think they might be learning it's a different animal closing at a 4-8 and 5-7 UT vs. Bama and UGA. Plus the early signing period throws a wrench in their usual routine.

Easy to recruit when you do it for Bama, Georgia and FSU. Don't have to push and plan visits as hard. Falls in place for you when you're an elite school.

all of them are used to someone else essentially "closing" the deal. all of these guys have been, and are, the relationship builders.

not a bad thing, it's just different.

pruitt commented on this when he was hired, about how it was going to be kind of difficult to transition from the being the guy that talks to the kids all the time, building the relationship, to the guy that only gets to go in home 1 or 2 times and "close".

maybe he didn't use those exact words, but he did specifically talk about how there is a difference in recruiting as a position coach/coordinator vs. the head coach.

either way.....................it's something they have to figure out.

quickly. i'm not getting impatient, im in for the long game. but if you're saying we are going to lose out on some of the prospects we appear to have lost out on this week, because we don't know how to close.......

that's a problem.

Him not meshing with Briles probably has more to do with not wanting to re-assign or fire Friend.

I do think there is more of a sweet spot in basketball. You sign a 5 star, he’s going to have designs on the draft after one year. In football, you’ve got them for 3. I do think UK would have 5 rings by now if their elite recruits had to stay for three years before declaring.

Barnes didn’t win the SEC regular season championship last year? That’s funny...guess he hasn’t won anything at Tennessee yet.
