I will be wait and see. We can trash the hire all we want to, but the fact is, not one person on here knows if its a good hire or not. May as well wait and see if he is indeed the guy.

Just real hard to get excited about it. A Lebby hire just seems to say a lot of folks told us no, and that’s not a good look.

"Pruitt was singing bye, bye to this Ty Helton guy, drove his Chevy to the Lebby just to give him a try..."

Personally, I think the "waiting to announce" is all BS. If you hire a guy, you don't wait. You announce that ASAP, move forward and recruit.

And I highly doubt its Lebby. JMO

Makes me wonder if its an OC still wanting to finish up with a team going to a Bowl or in playoffs. just a thought.

Other side of the coin is they think the announcement will hurt recruiting. Kind of a yucky way to look at it, but I am sure they know that a 'meh' hire will be used against them.

You would still announce it. You need that for recruiting. Pruitt isn't going to sit on his hire and wait to announce. That seems pretty ridiculous to me. When has that happened? It's a week before ESD, if Chaney or Enos or Chip Long were the guy...Pruitt would want that public knowledge. No?

Couldnt you still finish? I get the distraction but unless its for a NC, it should be announced as soon as a deal is in place unless you think it will hurt the early signing period. Jmo

I really don't think that's what was said, regardless of the hire.
Not saying I believe Doug but the report was "he knows who he wants", not that he's been hired and we're keeping it a secret.

I honestly don't know where everyone is getting the hire was made and keeping secret, stuff?

If that's the case that means Doug Mathews is lying or being lied to.

Maybe the OC job involves having to fire some current coaches to make room for who the new guy wants to bring with? Maybe deciding to wait til after ESD? Just trying to think of a valid reason to wait

maybe vetting the bring alongs

They're not going to hire someone they consider a "meh hire" lol
I know that they're not going to come out and say that but I am sure there is a list and I highly doubt that Lebby was at the top when this thing started. I don't think it is Lebby though because it wold probably be announced already.

I’m just saying, we’ve had zero luck with unproven coaches and minimal luck with proven ones. It’s supposed to be a selling point he called 50% of the plays? Give me a break. Any of the big names out there before were proven coordinators and head coaches before.

If it’s Lebby then I’ll roll with it regardless just like I have with every UT coach, but we shouldn’t expect any better results than last year and I would love to be proven wrong.

Yeah, I remember promoting an OL coach internally, to OC. Then, we promoted him to HC. Bad idea, of course. Well, the Natty wasn't too bad though.

they are not going to hire Lebby as OC... they just can't, I won't believe it. Sorry, I said yesterday if Pruitt has indeed talked/interviewed all these guys and settles on Lebby, especially with the money we have available, he just may be in over his head... This would be the first time I would officially start to question the HC hire. That would be a hire Dooley would have made...
