Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

Per the Doug Mathews show this morning; he reiterated that CJP knows who the OC will be (as does CPF). Does not know why it has not been announced but could be for a variety of reasons (still coaching, bonus, buyout etc) . It will be announced at the proper time and CJP is focused on recruiting as must increase the talent level. The team is focused on S&C as Vols need to be stronger and more physical.

Imo, the meetings this week have been more information and CJP picking offensive minds for strategies and tendencies as he knows the tempo offenses are a challenge for all CFB defenses. Mathews did allude to there could be changes on the offensive staff (other than just the OC)

IF anyone heard more and wants to correct he above - Go for it.

Another thread out there with Doug Matthews saying Pruitt has already hires his guy and they are waiting to make announcement until after they're done coaching. I guess Matthews is doubling down on his 95% comment
In fairness, he said the person might still be coaching, or there might be a buyout involved and they're waiting for some contractual terms to be worked out. Doug also talked for a bit about the importance to Fulmer of having former Vols players on staff, although it is CJP's decision. I've never thought JBC was a serious candidate here because he can make more in the pros and not have to recruit, but maybe it is JBC?

Kitchens probably. Would love to see Jim Bob come marching home.

For all the talk about Freeze enforcing the dress code at Briarcrest and Briles ... doing whatever he supposedly did (“knowing” something?), I think Cooter’s baggage is a lot more problematic. He actually broke into some woman’s house in the middle of the night, stripped down and climbed in her bed. Yikes. It’s not that I can’t get over him having done that necessarily (if just one really bad drunk night, etc.) — it’s more that I cannot even fathom how embarrassing it would be for the university if he did that again after we hired him.

In any case, I also haven’t heard anything that would even suggest why Cooter would make sense to come here except for the fact that he went to school here 20 years ago.

Also don’t see the appeal to Kitchens (except he at least does have history with Pruitt), and certainly don’t believe that Pruitt is just putting on a show right now with a grand plan to hire Kitchens in a month.

Would be easier for JBC to become a CFB Head Coach from an OC at UT than transition from the pros to college. College HC (power 5) make more tha NFL OC's and only a limited number of NFL HC's available. May be a career path decision. I still think it is a current college OC.

Wasn't Cooter' s situation where he was drunk and climbed through the window thinking it was his house?

That could me the hire is is either of someone from the NFL or whose college team is in a bowl game. If the latter, that didn't stop other schools from making the announcements. I can see CJP holding off making the hire public as a favor to Saban...which then means it could be Enos. However, it still could be Briles as Houston will play Army in the Armed Forces Bowl on 12/22. Same could be said of Yurcich as Okie St. plays in the Liberty Bowl on 12/31.

If it is a NFL coach, could be most anyone...with Kitchens, Sark, and maybe Cooter as the leading candidates.

Then again, the way things seem to transpire with this University, it could be none of the above.

Or, it could simply be Yurcich as he would have Liberty Bowl experience.

During his 95% statements, Matthews said the guy had SEC Experience (or was a sec OC)? Today I understand he said it’s done. Just waiting on announcing. So putting both Matthews statements together, it not an NFL guy. Likely Chaney or Enos?

She’s held in high regards to HC’s across the country. She speaks to CFB teams all across the country. She isn’t just some irrelevant person “twitter virtue signaling”. Regardless if you think Briles should be hired or not she brings up valid points and nothing she said was incorrect
“Held in high regard” lol more like HCs love her because they can bring her in to speak to the team for an hour and use that as something they can point to in case a player is involved in any kind of sexual assault investigation. Her entire career is virtue signaling.

Let Briles come here and score points and all will be forgiven.

Because they are bama and can do what they want?

Yeah I know, but seriously I don't get it... need one of the number crunchers on here to explain. They just flipped the #1 Safety in the country yesterday along with another kid... how can any of the kids we are in on be considering them when they have to be full by now?

Moot point probably, but circling back re: Briles...

(1) Again, it does not matter who Brenda Tracy is or what her story is. Does not matter. I have never heard of her (to my recollection) and do not know the story of what she alleges happened to her at the hands of college athletes years ago. Whatever it is, let’s assume her story is true and accurate in all material respects (which we don’t know because, like most of these activists, she apparently never took it to the police to be subjected to a real investigation). However sympathetic she may be, her and her story have zero bearing on the UT OC search.

(2) Briles is obviously not “entitled” to the UT job. We don’t know if Pruitt even wants him. (AV appears to have possibly signaled that he’s not the top choice.) Anybody arguing about how Briles is not entitled to the UT job is arguing against a straw man.

(3) There is all this conclusory talk about how Briles “must have known” and didn’t disown his dad, but there is never any facts or substance offered. Briles must have known what? And he should have disowned his dad for what? My recollection is that a couple of these Baylor cases were actually handled properly by taking them to the real police (not campus Title IX activist/administrators who have never even seen a real courtroom), and I think at least one guy was actually convicted of something. That’s how it should be done.

I cant think of anyone that fits the sec oc bill but plenty that have sec experience.

Atlanta Vol implied yesterday it was not Chaney, maybe the USCe OC (McClendon)

I've seen Briles Enos so many times I'm starting to read it as Brian Eno.
Solid resume, great work with collaborating and producing some of the very finest. A true innovator, his tree includes Bowie, David Byrne, Robert Fripp, and James Chance.

Let's get this guy.

Ok, serious answer.
They can convince even high rated or sought after recruits to blue shirt or whatever it's called now.
Honestly, because they're Bama. Newt is right either way.

I certainly hope so.

In any case, like I said, I can forgive him that (assuming that’s basically what happened), but it’s troubling because if it happened again while UT’s OC, it would be a big problem, regardless of the explanation.
