Hugh Freeze related (UT cited) from an Auburn mod.

So here we are. Gus Malzahn offered a two-pronged plan to salvage the 2019 season, at least from a marketing perspective, and those two prongs included the additions of Kelly Bryant and Freeze.

Well, Bryant announced last night that he'll play at Missouri next season. Strike one.

Freeze has spoken with Malzahn at least twice regarding the vacant offensive coordinator position at Auburn. Administrators have been reluctant to offer any prospective coordinator more than a one-year guarantee, which is insane given that coaches, as a group, talk as much as high-school girls, and they all know Auburn football certainly has seen better days in terms of the program's overall health. I'm not sure a single, qualified coordinator candidate would accept this job with one year on his deal. So the next guy will get a second year, but the question is how that will actually go down. Will Malzahn have to personally guarantee that second year? Will the administration relent? I'm not sure just yet.

Freeze apparently remains very much in play as a possible head coach at Liberty University — his previous misdeeds be damned. Freeze also is coveted by Florida State, though we're told Freeze would much prefer to remain in the SEC if he's going to be a coordinator.

Word around the league, however, is that commissioner Greg Sankey pushed back (to some degree) when Tennessee was interviewing Freeze for its coordinator vacancy. We've spoken with two sources who believe Sankey would relent if pressed on the issue, that he'd eventually capitulate and permit a member school to hire Freeze, but it will take an organized effort to make that happen. Auburn doesn't seem inclined to do that — at least in my view.

So while I still consider Freeze in play here, the Liberty dalliance and this "snag" with Sankey makes me think it's more of a long shot. He's No. 1 on Malzahn's list. I just don't think Malzahn has enough power to force his way right now.

I would love for Auburn to fall into the abyss. I have no issue with Auburn generally, but after a couple of frustrating blowouts to Bama and a long losing streak they might start dealing out Bama dirt to the NCAA.

Strong auburn is valuable for us.

I think it’s more likely it’s someone we haven’t heard of then freeze at this point.

If as Doug says it's a guy with lots of sec experience that probably narrows the field quite a bit to Freeze, Enos, Werner, McClendon, Chaney.... and maybe dark horse throwing darts at a dartboard Mike Bobo who had some health issues and on hot seat might find it better to step back to coordinating. He has plenty of work experience with friend and Lilly

Maybe he's asked for different stipulations at FSU due to being outside the SEC?

If he truly does have a offer from Liberty sounds like he should take that job. Seems to me that all the bigger programs have push back internally to hiring him. Liberty could really rehab his image and launch him into another power 5 job within 3 years
