Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

My opinion is if Fulmer and/or Pruitt blocked the hire I'm 100% on board with that. Pruitt wants to succeed here for his own personal reasons and benefits. And he has to be the leader of the football program so I trust his opinion.

No one, anywhere or during any period of time, cares more about UT than Fulmer. So if he blocked I'm more than fine with that. I honestly picture that whenever he heard the information that caused him to block the hire (if that's what happned) that he was just as disappointed as we are. But he knew it would be what is best for the program and the university.

I have no clue where we go from here. But I trust both of these guys to hire the best possible candidate.

Did 1045 in Nashville just say Doug Matthews will on in an hour talking about issues above fulmer hindering the search?

Honestly, I think there's some truth to both statements. If the Vols really wanted to Freeze, then all the vetting should've been done last week, IMO. It wasn't breaking news to anyone inside the football facility that Tyson Helton wasn't going to be here in 2019. So the lack of foresight and preparation there speaks to a level of organizational incompetence.

But perhaps Pruitt wasn't as gaga over Freeze as many folks presumed?

A lot of people have simply made assumptions on what Pruitt wants to do with this hire. Chip Lindsay was a very popular name 10 days ago. Folks, us included, were connecting dots and talking to people around the OC search.

Lindsay was a very popular name.

Yet as it turned out, Tennessee didn't actually want Chip Lindsay. It had no interest. AP did a great job of getting that info. No one else reported that. But AP noted here that Lindsay wasn't a priority candidate for Pruitt — despite the connections and his name being floated out.

A day later, Chip was off to Kansas.

Right now, I feel confident in saying that the Freeze talks are dormant but not totally dead and that it will be a huge surprise if Tennessee promotes from within.

From there, it's on to tracking who the next candidates might be.

I think Freeze/Sexton started the whirlwind. Who knows what is real. I hated on GV247 for being so quiet and acting as if they didn't believe the Hugh stuff was as deep as others were saying. I think that was then being cautious because they knew it was Freeze camp not TN camp talking. They wouldn't confirm until they had both sides. They also are using their national 247 network to get what they hear.

Maybe 247 was quiet because it is quiet on TN side. Everyone else took Hugh's word because it was all they had to go on and they have subscribers needing news.

Hugh was definitely interested. His heart would pick TN but I think he is thinking career and fastest way to HC over heart

Basically...the local media (VQ included) have no real clue what Pruitt is doing and who he's interested in. So they decided to do a lot of guessing and when their guesses turn out to be wrong...this fanbase comes unglued with a lot conspiracy theories as to why things "fell apart". Hell, we had some folks today questioning why Fulmer doesn't want the football program to succeed. Just stupid stuff. The AD being tight-lipped about this stuff is hurting more than helping. This fanbase can't handle it.

Sarks name is gaining traction.

This fanbase has a terminal case of BVS. The AD should be tight-lipped. It hasn't been before and that caused a circus.

Yep now they are pushing the incompetence part when Hubbs should have stuck with his original info that he thinks Pruitt will take his time and wait out to speak with NFL candidates
