Gotta say thanks to @Bassmaster_Vol, @drylo, and a few others for some hilarious GuhIFs overnight! Y’all had me rolling this morning!

Another thought: I don’t think I have seen anyone mention Bryan McClendon from USCe again, since he didn’t get the ECU job. I wonder if Pruitt may have been waiting to interview him since he almost hired him last year? Hire him as OC and RB coach, and move Weinke to QBs (unless he goes to maryland).

There’s no angle... my confidence in hiring freeze took a major hit last night. I don’t think it’s completely over and won’t until he’s working for another school or we hire someone else. He was/is at the top of the list.

All i was saying last night was that it’s not as simple as “Haslam or this big money guy is blocking and everyone else is on board”. That’s not what’s happening it’s more than that so I’m not as confidence as i was l before.

And you or whoever can flame me all you want but I’ve said a million times that idc about “VN cred” i hear stuff and pass it a long to guys/gals i like talking sports with. It’s fun for me, not my reputation or livelihood. Yes i called me shot “guessed” that freeze would be announced the other day. I was wrong lol.

But you can go back and check my post. A week ago i said freeze was a legit candidate and people were blocking... 2 days later VQ says it. I also said shortly after hearing Drinkwitz name that he isn’t a legit candidate and it was just a curtesy interview .. then VQ reports it. Same thing with Enos. There’s also a NFL guy that we’ve talked too not working for the Browns. I’m sure we will hear about that from “tos” soon.

Sean Payton, would be my guess. Of course, I’m a Saints fan, so I can’t have too much joy in sports. I’d flip him to Knoxville in a split second though

Looked at Bama 247 OC hot board since I figure good chance we talk to same folks.

Enos
Freeze
Gattis
chip Long
Dan Werner

Outside of the obvious Enos/Freeze

Chip Long stood out once I looked him up. Notre Dame OC that some thought would go to Bama last yr. 2 things stood out. Alabama native that played at North alabama. OC at Memphis in Yr 1 Norvell. So there is the David Johnson connection. Known as a young fast riser and a top recruiter. Was under Norvell for awhile at Arizona St.

Dan Werner. Does great work with QB development from Miami to Ole Miss to now at South Carolina. Was an analyst at Alabama in 2017 when Pruitt was there.

He already left. Second in line I’m not entirely impressed with terry fair 🤷🏽‍♂️ Flame me not saying he’s ****** but the “sh**ty coach comment was towards possibly hiring a no name OC.

I guarantee that Jimmy Sexton and UT helped move Helton to WKU. He may have went anyways. but he had help. Pruitt may have his guy, but there may be other parts to move on the offensive side of the ball. This saves UT lots of money. Did you notice how UT graciously waved what Helton owed UT for leaving?

I posted this yesterday and the more I hear the more I think it is true.

No one outside of Pruitt and Fulmer really know what is happening. There are a multitude of trolls here on VN, VQ, and Twitter who love watching Vol fans panic and fret. I am glad Pruitt is taking his time to get the right offensive staff. Relax and have a great day Volnation.

Good lawd y'all want to question Hank and ATLs of the world who have consistent track record of knowing things but want to believe Every word of some guy that claims he disappeared and never looked at this board for 5 yrs while building his network only to wait for that 1 day to magically appear during a coach search and right before ESD like he knows everything in Pruitts head. Run Sab hiding under some weird name off not the guys that actually talk to people.

I don't agree with everything hank always says but stuff he has said tends to get corrobated day's or wks later by vq crew.

DB Coach on a Pruitt staff is the least important from a pure coaching perspective since Pruitt can handle it. So, just need the DB coach to one of our best recruiters

My thoughts on Freeze:

Let me preface this by saying, IF we hired him, I’m good with that.

1. Hiring Freeze would be a statement that the culture of TN football has shifted. They are going for broke to win big again.

2. Hiring Freeze would be a big statement in the world of recruiting. It would validate Pruitt as “getting it done”

3. Hiring Freeze would likely bring NCAA eyes to Knoxville. We already know we are going to have to play in the gray areas to catch up in talent. The NCAA doesn’t pop thriving programs. They pop up-and-coming and struggling programs.

4. Hiring Freeze means we are searching for an OC again after 1-2 years. Programs that are rolling can better afford stop gap hires. We would be better served by a guy who rolls up his sleeves because development is huge right now.

5. Admit it or not, TN made our bed on Schiano Sunday. Hiring Freeze, rightfully so, would be a joke after the protest concerning Schiano / Penn State. The fact that there are even rumors of Hugh and underage girls is very problematic.

6. Hire Freeze and you live with the constant undercurrent of worry that a girl / group of girls come out with MeToo stories. OR a prostitute comes out with sordid details.

7. Hiring Freeze makes a huge statement. But when it comes down to actually building an offense and calling plays on game day, there are dozens of OC’s all around the country who have effective, high scoring offenses. Finding an effective, productive OC is very doable. Finding someone who can be comparable to Freeze as an OC is very doable. The advantage of Freeze is the statement made...no doubt, his track record indicates he is an elite offensive mind. But rational thinking says there are others out there to be had who will do a good job.
