Locksley called an awful game for the Gumps in the first 3 quarters. Way to quick to abandon the run game where UGA is most suceptable on D.

UGA gave Tua some new looks last night and brought the heat to offset those deep routes Bama runs.

Tua wants to hit a home run every first down, it's like take the checkdown! Bama started keeping the back in for help and he's still patting the ball in the pocket like he's uncle rico or somebody

While I despise UGA, unfortunately I believe we’re witnessing the beginning of a Dabo/Clemson type run with Smart. Some growing pains and questionable coaching, but will eventually lead to a Natty as they will be in contention almost every year.

Unlike Clemson in that pathetic excuse of a football conference, UGA at least has a few games to challenge them.

Hope I’m wrong and they fall apart after Mel Tucker and Justin Fields leave.
Don't see them falling apart. There going be tuff ,Georgia has so much talent. We're going have to have that QB that's a difference maker to beat them on a regular basics. Pruitt will have a defense to slow them down. Going take minimum of two years great recruiting. GBO

I think it’s different because Dabo got time to build a program because Clemson had never been elite. When he started tasting real success their fans were just happy to be there.

Georgia has been to the National Championship game and the SEC championship game twice in the last two years and already the fans are feeling a little antsy about him.

I’m not saying he won’t be successful or will be fired at some point soon, but this is a critical juncture for him. He can’t botch the coordinator hire and he’ll have to recruit in the face of adversity for the first time.

Hate to tell them but that game isn’t on Chaney. He called a fantastic game. It’s all on the HC.
They were moving the ball with ease when he was giving the ball to Swift in the first half, and then for some reason in the 2nd half they stopped...Chaney called a great first half but not a good 2nd half

I seem to remember Chaney doing the same thing last year. Maybe Chaney is only a half good?

UGA shouldn’t be in the CFP. They had their chance last night in what was basically a quarterfinal game.

I honestly think Bama would have won by more if they would have put Hurts in when Tua hurt his ankle in the first quarter. He wasn’t the same after that.

You know how some coaches just don't have "it"

Long time NFL follower here, so I'll give Marty Schottenheimer for example. Amazing regular season guy, but always found a way to fumblef**k the playoffs away.

I wonder if that is how Kirby Smart is. Great recruiter, great regular season guy... but when the lights are brightest, he'll find a way to muck it up.

I think he benefits greatly from coaching in Georgia, and because of that he'll almost always have a significant talent advantage of his opponents. But when he gets pressed by an equally talented team (LSU and AU, for example) hes not a good enough coach to consistently win. In fact, you could argue he'll make a bonehead decision that costs his team a chance (like fake field goal or fake punts from midfield with 3 minutes left on 4th and 11). Hence why I don't buy the budding uga dynasty talk.

I'm not sure if CJP has "it" or not. I think he does, but that could just be my view from my orange shades. Obviously its too early to tell. Nevertheless... as soon as we get a few recruiting cycles in and we have this roster rebuilt, I think we'll be the thorns in uga's side, as opposed to them being in ours. Not saying we'd win every year - but I am saying we'll win more than them.
Not a fan of Kirby but that Oklahoma win in the playoffs would’ve been a NC a few seasons ago and TWICE they’ve played Bama and TWICE they’ve pummeled them before “De Udder Guy” came off da bench to epically rip their heart out. He’s built a great program that’s here to stay imo. That being said, until the powers that be cave in to the inevitable 8 team playoffs before the even more inevitable 18, you have to go by the records with relative schedules. Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson played legit schedules and were undefeated in the process...UGA ain’t bumping Oklahoma or Ohio State and their one losses off of some baseball inspired stats rationale.

I remember circa 2002 -2005 when it looked like UGA was going to be a generational dynasty under Richt, replacing Spurrier’s Gators as the top dog of the SEC. They never did get that national championship, though, and the shine wore off a bit over time as Saban, then Meyer, and then Saban again overshadowed them.

This is the trajectory I am hoping for with the Smart Era at UGA, and I think last night went a long way towards that result. They are always going to have great recruiting, and sometimes when they get the right coach they can step that up a notch and pull a #1 class. But if they continue to come up short, even by a little, eventually that shine wears off, and they fall back to the pack. It’s very important they don’t get that fourth spot in the CFB tonight (I don’t think they will) and I think that the way that Kirby botched that game last night is going to be like a tattoo on his coaching reputation going forward.

Yeah it’s certainly a different starting point and Dabo built compared to Kirby inheriting. My point is if they keep knocking on the door it’s going to likely open for them.

Kirby can point to it being a rebuilding year on D, losing two NFL RBs and they still had a great season. I more than anyone hope the wheels come off in Athens.

and Bama came out in punt safe before uga lined up. that alone should have sparked a timeout.

That fake punt is designed to be run against punt safe. They waited too long to snap the the ball. It was a great play design, but should have never been called at 50 yard line so late in a tie balll game.
You can criticized the call, but the play was there if Fields had not waited so long to snap the ball. Again, Smart could have used a timeout to abort the call.

I was saying most of the game that of Alabama lost, they also should not be in the playoff and Georgia should. If the loses are the same for a P5 with resumes that aren't extremely different, conference championships should matter heavily. If UGA won itd be
1. Clemson
2. Notre Dame
3. UGA
4. OU

but as bama won, it should be
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. OU

UGa with 2 losses isn't even in the conversation. They had a great game plan and played Bama well... that is not a qualifier that overwrites two losses. They played most of that game great... good for them. But with the existence of "any given saturday", it doesnt qualify them. We lost to Florida in 2006 by 1... does that mean we should have gotten a BCS bid? Of course not.

OSU got spanked by Purdue. They needed to be the only one loss team to even have a chance with such a bad loss, they aren't so they are out. It's a simple top 4 and it's not controversial at all.

The margins are thin for sure. Let’s see how they finish out this recruiting class. I know they’ll very likely still be great and have a top 5 ish class, but it’ll be interesting to see if there are SOME defections.

And next year, they have to deal with an improved Florida and Tennessee while playing Notre Dame and what I suspect will be a very improved Texas A&M team. Two losses and he’s feeling the heat.

It will be
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. ND
4. OU

No reason for the GA nonsense. OU has one loss which they avenged last night in dominating fashion. ND is undefeated. There is no argument for GA. It doesn’t matter that they played Bama close. They lost and they also got blown out by LSU.

There should be no debate here

I think the committee looks at the playoffs like this:
  1. Who is the alpha?
  2. What three teams can beat them?
When’s that theory been tested? LSU is the last team to qualify for a NC game with two losses and that required a stunning number of upsets of teams ahead of them in the old BCS. All teams in this new system have either been undefeated conference champs or one loss major players. They ain’t putting in a team that lost their second in a championship game loss.

Smart called a low percentage desperation play when he had no reason to be desperate at that point. To a lot of people that means he CHOKED and I hope that's what sticks to him like "champions of life". To make matters worse he trots Fields into the punt formation lineup. Really? Bama isn't going to figure you're trying to get cute? Bama doesn't even send in their punt return unit?

I won't argue the claim that UGA has perhaps one of the 4 most talented teams in the country but I'm not yet convinced they have one of the top 4 HC in the country.

A lot of people are going to end up making up their minds that Kirby lost that game for his team and I think that could be to our benefit..........unless when and if we get in a similar position our guy ends up being no different.

That's contradictory. If the play was there because it is designed for punt safe then the snap doesnt matter as the defensive formation is the same. Not fully being in punt safe or lined up wrong is irrelevant to that point. Catching them off guard seems to be the argument. except they didnt. It's a great play design if the punt team isnt looking for it. They were and Bama maintained their assignments and you know the result. So I'll disagree with you there.

Think that last spot goes to OU also, but it’s going to be a tight one to deny Ohio State two years in a roll.

Perfect year to see why we need an 8 team playoff. 7 teams with a legitimate case to be in, and only 4 spots. Make it 8 and let them decide it on the field.
