You know how some coaches just don't have "it"
Long time NFL follower here, so I'll give Marty Schottenheimer for example. Amazing regular season guy, but always found a way to fumblef**k the playoffs away.
I wonder if that is how Kirby Smart is. Great recruiter, great regular season guy... but when the lights are brightest, he'll find a way to muck it up.
I think he benefits greatly from coaching in Georgia, and because of that he'll almost always have a significant talent advantage of his opponents. But when he gets pressed by an equally talented team (LSU and AU, for example) hes not a good enough coach to consistently win. In fact, you could argue he'll make a bonehead decision that costs his team a chance (like fake field goal or fake punts from midfield with 3 minutes left on 4th and 11). Hence why I don't buy the budding uga dynasty talk.
I'm not sure if CJP has "it" or not. I think he does, but that could just be my view from my orange shades. Obviously its too early to tell. Nevertheless... as soon as we get a few recruiting cycles in and we have this roster rebuilt, I think we'll be the thorns in uga's side, as opposed to them being in ours. Not saying we'd win every year - but I am saying we'll win more than them.
