Elite 2020 QB commits to Vols, wants to 'build' program

The idea of getting Tennessee back to where it has been in the past was a big thought in Bailey’s decision.
“If you know anything about me, I like to build stuff. I like taking a program that is not where he needs to be and taking it to where it should be,” he said. “I like building stuff around me, I like to be the one, I want that responsibility.”

The head coach for the Volunteers was another big reason they won out in the end.
“I trust coach (Jeremy) Pruitt and his staff,” he said. “Coach Pruitt has won those national championships where he has been. He has coached a lot of great players. I know and I believe that he is going to recruit really good players there, and I am not worried about that. I trust him that he is going to bring in somebody good with the OC job.”

The message to recruits and the Tennessee fan base from Bailey is the same.
“Come be great, come play with some great coaches, some great players. We are going to get it turned around,” he said. “I am coming to win championships. We are going to win. I believe that much in Coach Pruitt, too.”

Now Bailey gets to do some recruiting. Pruitt made sure Bailey knew that he would be an extra recruiter if he selected Tennessee.
“Coach Pruitt has always told me that in the 2020 class, he wanted me and he wanted me to go recruit guys I want to play with. He has told me to let them know who I want to get and they will help me build this class.
“I want to definitely get some top offensive linemen and wide receivers. I have my teammate Arik Gilbert, wide receivers Porter Rooks and Joshua Downs and some others already in mind. I will be recruiting for sure.”

Having strong recruiting classes are the bloodlines to every program. Bailey knows Tennessee does not have the roster to compete at the level it expects to, but that actually appealed to the Peach State signal caller.
“I am really big on starting from ground zero and build something,” said Bailey. “At Michigan, they already have an established program, but at Tennessee, I can help build the program up.
“I feel like I can help coach Pruitt build a powerhouse. I want to help re-build the program. That is what I want to be a part of.”

Bailey has total faith that Pruitt is on track to do just that.

VolQuest.com - BREAKING: Rivals100 QB Harrison Bailey commits to Tennessee over Michigan

"I'm blessed to be a Vol," Bailey said.
"I want to build a program. I love the coaching staff and the area. I know whoever coach Pruitt brings in is going to be a great OC."

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback held more than 20 offers, but Bailey narrowed his decision between Tennessee and Michgian earlier this fall and announced his choice at a school ceremony Thursday.
Bailey visited both schools multiple times, including attending three games at Neyland this year. The blue-chip quarterback's final trip before Thursday’s decision was attending Tennessee’s home loss to Missouri two weeks ago.
Bailey wasn’t dissuaded by the blowout loss or eventual departure of offensive coordinator Tyson Helton, telling Rivals, “I’ve known where I want to go for three weeks. Once I commit it’s done. I have really thought about this and know where I want to go.”

Love his grit! Have to respect the young man for wanting to earn it by building it instead of walking into a ready made, plug and play, winning team. Good luck young man!
