'19 GA ATH Owen Pappoe (Auburn signee)

Owen Pappoe will officially visit Tennessee next weekend (Dec. 7), per multiple sources.

The Vols have worked hard to flip the Grayson (Ga.) standout the last few months, continuing to entrench themselves with the Tigers commit. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker is teammates with 5-star Vols commit Wanya Morris and attended Tennessee’s win over Charlotte in early November. Fellow Grayson teammate Kenyatta Watson will not be making the trip next weekend but Tennessee hopes to get the Texas DB on campus just before the dead period.

“Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt, he keeps it real,” Pappoe told VolQuest earlier this month. “It’s not even about recruiting. He tells me the places they need help at on the field and he really thinks I can make an impact for him.”

Tennessee has an obvious need at inside linebacker, and Pappoe is one of several targets at the position, with the Vols working to flip him and Georgia commit Trezman Marshall.

Pappoe has been a familiar face around Knoxville for years, but the Vols have emerged as real contenders now thanks to Pruitt and Pappoe’s other connections on staff. The Under Armour All-American knows Charles Kelly and is close linebackers coach and defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer and quality control analyst Tino Sunseri.

“There’s dudes from all these different staffs that I’ve had previous relationships with,” Pappoe said. “Really, it’s just building from what we already had.”

Pappoe is an early enrollee and will arrive at his college of choice following the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando on January 3.
