"I think the Hugh Freeze stuff has some legs"

I haven't had a chance to read through all of this but Fulmer is the roadblock for Freeze. Go ahead and stone me (lol) but I personally know someone who is involved and Freeze will take the job if offered but Fulmer may not allow it. FWIW

Not trying to stir the pot of "inside information". I personally hope Freeze is hired.

This would not surprise me at all...

Have not read all of this thread but I'm from Mississippi and was pushing Freeze last November and got bombarded for the suggestion. I mentioned then if we didn't pursue, other SEC teams would, and we've already seen those Alabama teams to the South show interest. Personally, I would love to see him in Volunteer Orange .... and for a very long time!

Then he needs to go.......

If Freeze is hired , would he be the highest paid OC in the country?

Probably would be the highest paid OC or close to it.

Freeze is far and away the best hire TN could make for their next offensive coordinator in my opinion. Just have Weinke or whomever Pruitt chooses shadow Freeze very closely, take notes and learn because you probably only have him for a year or two (three if you're lucky) before he is offered a HC position at a big time program like LSU, for example.

No, Orgeron is not on the hot seat but another year or two of duplicating Les Miles performance and he will be.

GO VOLS and hire a proven OC!!!

I would be happy to get Freeze but he uses a running QB a lot. Ours doesn't appear to be good with his legs. Just sayin..........

He throws a lot too. His 2016 Offense was one of the best offensive teams in the country in 2016, while ranking top three in the SEC in passing offense, first down offense and total offense. Averaging 314.9 passing yards per game, the Rebels paced the conference for the second consecutive season...

The Rebels continued to beat some of the nation’s best teams, knocking off No. 11 Georgia 45-14 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium before a memorable comeback victory at Kyle Field against No. 8 Texas A&M. Behind true freshman quarterback Shea Patterson, who was making his Rebel debut, Ole Miss rallied from a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter to stun the Aggies 29-28. In the comeback win, Patterson set Ole Miss records for passing yards (338) and total yards (402) in a single game by a freshman...

Bottom line: Freeze is a winner and a very good offensive mind. TN would do very well to hire him in my opinion.

GO VOLS!!!

Im not sure Freeze is in any kinda position to name his price. Not to say he would be cheap, but the school doing the hiring is actually giving him a 2nd chance. So I dont see the whole highest payed OC thing playing out with Freeze at all.

Agree with you, I was just answering the poster's question.

Freeze would certainly be worth what we were paying Tyson Helton (but I have no idea where that ranks among OCs in the country) and Freeze already has a job. If he is wanting a 2nd chance and I believe he is then I'm not sure he would be looking to be the highest paid offensive coordinator. Regardless, sure hope TN hires him.

Go VOLS!!!

Doug Matthews was just on the radio in Nashville and stated Fulmer will NOT roadblock anyone including Freeze. Matthews indicates Fulmer will let this be Pruitt’s hire 100%.

I am not sure if a tiger can change his stripes, but he should at least know that getting caught again will end his career. He should at least know that he will have to do a better job at hiding his indiscretions. The reality IMO is that most programs have some special way of gaining an extra edge by bending or breaking rules. I would love for Tennessee to be the white knight of power 5 football and still win, but that is not the world that we live in.

I'm sure if we did hire him, there be a whole bunch of clauses in his contract pertaining to his behavior and what not. I also believe he'd be on a short leash and pretty much under Fulmer and/or Pruitt's thumb the whole time when it comes to things like recruiting and what not.

But I think he wouldn't do anything stupid on this big of a stage. Plus it would make him look better if he came in and turned this offense around, would open his HC opportunities and if he wants that then this would be good for him.

If that is the case, I could see him really helping build O-line and helping get the offense moving in the right direction. I think that he will be in and out of UT in 3 years though, especially if our offense shows a lot of improvement with him as the OC. Once he is back in the spotlight he will start getting offers to be a HC very soon thereafter. So if we do get him on staff, we should probably be keeping our eye out for his replacement, hopefully not another unknown up and comer, but rather a known commodity.

Agreed, if he did come here and turned around the offense and we get back to being in the hunt for the East it might easier to find a quality replacement if he should happen to leave. I think we'd probably better served to have Freeze, but Lindsey isn't a bad fall back either.
