"I think the Hugh Freeze stuff has some legs"

my guess is Pruitt is talking to Fulmer about who is on his list... then Fulmer (as he should) is giving some advice or recommendations as well but Pruitt will be the one to choose

That is how it is supposed to work.

You might want to go look at Heltons quote after getting the WKU job.

“And then Jeremy Pruitt taught me so much about how to develop players that have attention to detail. He's going to do great things at the University of Tennessee, was tremendous for me and I was honored to work for him for the year that I was there and wish him the best of luck."

That’s all I could find. Got a link to something else?

I'm not so sure I'd want to tell the SEC to kiss my butt and do something they strongly advise not too. Hell, even Nick Saban didn't.

That said, I might, but I'd sure try to get them to buy off on it first.
I'd say they had plenty of leverage on Saban....
don't hire him or else we'll check into your recruiting practices, research the nature of the $50,000 cars your players drive, tell the officials to stop leaning your way on calls.

just going by Pruitt picking his current staff as well - I don't think Fulmer played a big role there other than liking who Pruitt has on his list of hopefuls when he talked to Fulmer about them

Let's not overlook one important point: Bama passed on hiring Freeze LAST YEAR. While he was still under a show cause for HC jobs, and Ole Miss was still actively paying for his alleged recruiting sins. That doesn't mean if Locksley leaves for an HC job that Saban won't hire Freeze to run the offense THIS year.

We can't twiddle our thumbs and let Saban screw us again. It's time we fight.

I stated this in either this thread or another. They could make it hard on UT if they strongly discouraged the hire. The last thing you want to do is throw yourself under a microscope. AL passed for that exact reason. Now this year could be totally different for the SEC and Sanky. He has been a full year out. Maybe they feel that he has served his time.

Put me under the microscope as the AD and here is my comment: "Hugh Freeze has paid a dear price for his transgressions and we had a long talk with Hugh and his family and they are committed to being an integral part of the community. I'm not someone that thinks 2nd choices shouldn't be allowed. I look forward to working with Hugh as he gets back into coaching and leading young men."

"If I'm going to be criticized, I want to be criticized for dang taking chances and trying to make plays. I don't want to be criticized for being conservative. Let's try to go win games getting after people and being aggressive." - Helton

This was posted in the "Tyson Helton officially announced at WKU" thread.

You might want to go look at Heltons quote after getting the WKU job.

You mean in the regards that Helton vowed to make WKU viable again and would use a cutting edge offense?

He said the same thing for Tennessee.... the difference, Tennessee is in the SEC not Conference USA- East, and with the guys we had, Helton was handicapped.

Helton was not handicapped by CJPs doing but by the style of play of the SEC. Without the players it is hard to do what Helton wanted to do in the SEC. CJP has stated multiple times he wants to have an explosive offense. (He also stated he wants to be able to run the ball) We couldn’t even run the ball against SEC teams. We could barely pass against SEC teams.

Helton will do good things at WKU mainly because of the competition. It’s easier to get a team firing in Conf. USA then it is in the SEC and that is a proven fact.

"I think Hugh Freeze is a real possibility and he will be given serious consideration," Low said Wednesday on Jayson Swain's radio show. "Pruitt has several guys on his list and one of those guys is Freeze. I don't know that he's the guy at the head of that list, but I do expect Jeremy to talk to him. I think he can help Tennessee. He's proven. Saban tried to hire him last year, but the SEC sort of squashed that.

"A lot of the stuff he talked with Saban about they ran this year at Alabama. I do think Freeze is in and will be given serious consideration. If Jeremy decides that who he wants and he's the best fit, that's what will happen."

I haven't had a chance to read through all of this but Fulmer is the roadblock for Freeze. Go ahead and stone me (lol) but I personally know someone who is involved and Freeze will take the job if offered but Fulmer may not allow it. FWIW

Not trying to stir the pot of "inside information". I personally hope Freeze is hired.

Here is my thing. Let's say Fulmer said F the league office and hired Freeze anyway. What punishment could the SEC hand down? They couldn't do bowl game bans, recruiting restrictions, or scholly reductions because of a hire. I think their only way to really punish us would be to say "you have to forfeit your league games as long as he is hired."

Do I think that would hold up in court? Hell no. Especially in a TN Federal Courthouse. Also the league wouldn't risk losing the money either. It would be a long standoff, but the league office would relent.... Sankey isn't Mike Slive.

Sankey has black balled Freeze and does not want him anywhere in the SEC.. You could say screw it and hire him anyway. Technically they can't do anything but the problem with giving Sankey the finger is down the road when they'll bust our ass for recruiting violations. EVERYBODY crosses the line recruiting. EVERYBODY pays players. The league office knows this and looks the other way at the majority of it. However, you do this though and I guarantee the microscope will get turned your way and it's open season on Tennessee.

That said Fulmer and Pruitt know where a lot of bodies are buried and could say ok, you want to play, we can play to and just go full nuclear. Do you really want to do that though..

Personally it's all so damn corrupt anyway I say burn the whole damn mess down. They won't though and that's why I'm not allowed to be in charge of anything...

In the end, I think it will be Lindsey and honestly, that's not a bad hire...

Anything of Freeze will be a lackluster hire. Promoting from within would be nuclear. This hire has to be a homerun. Lindsey isn't that, in my opinion. At the end of the day, how much of an OC was he under Gus?

Good stuff

I agree, Freeze is the best option and really makes the most sense. As I said, I hope PF/JP go for it and just let the chips fall where they may. Personally I think Pruitt has the balls but not Phil.

As far as Lindsey goes, he's a good OC and I think he's been a bit hamstrung by Gus. He's definitely a better choice than one of Pruitt's 'up and coming' high school buddies.. This hire is BIG for Pruitt and I'm afraid if he's goes with the buddy option he want be here long...

If Freeze is CJPs choice and Fulmer won't allow it, Fulmer needs to go.
