I suspect 1 of 2 things with this hire

I suspect 1 thing about this new OC; based on UT's history of hiring on-the-cheap up-n-comers, this hire will be disappointing to fans. It will have all the excitement of CSPAN program. A high school coach stepping into the role would be the most UT thing ever.

The thought of this makes me sick.... but honestly I would not be surprised at all if they try pulling some bullish!t like this.

Honestly if I’m Maurer, I basically make it known who I want as OC. What incentive does he have to come here if Pruitt promotes Friend?
If he doesn't come here because he didn't get his way on the hire, then I guarantee you that he isn't the kind of player we want to start with.

The sad thing is , I think so also. If it is then Fulmer and Pruitt needs to be fired. This is something Fulmer would pull as a coach. This will be the beginning of the end of those 2
So if they do promote Friend, you propose that we fire both the HC and the AD before we even see if it's going to work out or not?

Why should any offensive recruit come here if Friend is simply promoted within? Name one reason. You can’t.

The guy has been an OC before, and he's going to run pretty much the same offense that Helton was running. If said offensive recruit doesn't want to play in that style of offense, then why did he committ here in the first place?

IMO, UT will do what we always do. We will promote Friend, win 6 games next year if lucky, win 6 games the following year, and look for another new head coach.

I think if we hire someone like Freeze, it would mean an additional 2-3 wins per year. Promote Wenke or Friend, and we will be searching for another HC in 2 years. MO

If Friend cant coach the OL how in the he11 do you think he cant be a OC. This will be the dumbest move Pruitt can make and if you cant see that then I dont know what to tell you.

Let me rephrase, why should a recruit commit to Friend as OC when he’s obviously taken a major step back in coaching ability to one part of the office. He was more than fine at CSU, but as a position coach, he was and is atrocious with no improvement to show.

Early playing time sells but we’ve been down this road where we get great recruits only for the good ole boys club of coaching ruins it.

This hire has to be a home fun. Friend is not.

Because recruits are going to be talking directly to him, and their position coach. They'll either like what they hear or they won't. I guarantee you that they won't base their decision on what the message board consensus is.

Is the OL on the coach or the players? They've been pitiful now under 2 different OL coaches. Part of it, I agree, is on Friend. Part of it is on players that either can't or won't do their jobs.

I don't want Friend to end up getting it either. I'm just not going to go all Sherman through Georgia if he does. Same as with anyone else who is hired, I'll make a judgement based on what he actually does here.

I don't think he will hire a spread guy, not Kingsbury or Freeze. Seems he wants to use a FB and those guys have never seen a FB

Is it just me or did it seem like this was pretty much EVERY Pass play this year?!?!

Notice the fine job the left guard executed. The center was our Alabama steal.

Vols will hire an OC who will run the offense like Pruitt wants it run. He wants the pro style running attack and occasionally throw it deep or use the screen game. A close to the vest, safe offense with few turnovers and few risks taken. This is much like the offense the Vols ran in the 90s which works great if you have bigger stronger faster athletes than your opponents. Gonna take a while to get to that point

They can't just change coordinators in order to switch to a spread. They need completely different players and that ain't happenin'. The spread demands a different type of O-lineman, a TE, a different type of QB and on and on. They're not set up to be a spread team. It ain't happenin'

Well there was the Auburn game! 328yds passing!

And what 15-18 million in the country Illegally?!?

And this small party on the way!

But no, no first hand knowledge.

.
That's what I asked. First hand knowledge. We averaged 196 yards passing per game, so no we didn't. And I didn't go to the faux news school of journalism so you're going to have to quote a reputable source as it pertains to your number of Illegals.

Guys. It’s Friend. Promote the underperforming. Don’t do anything bold. Someone might get offended or ā€œnot like itā€.

Friend to OC, then a musical chairs shuffle, then an underwhelming hire at whatever position coach spot is open.

It’s the Tennessee Way.

Hope you're wrong but expect you are correct.
