JG won’t be the QB next year. With a new OC, it’s time to start looking to the future and work with a player with a much higher ceiling than him. My guess is he transfers.
I agree with this. While I am critical of his play, I in no way dislike the guy or wish he would fall off the face of earth. I want him to excel in the future no matter if that's here or not. I truly wish him the best. If he comes back next year and has sincerely won the starting job then I hope he makes me eat crow. The kid has a ton of heartJG may not be the greatest, but even if you don't think he's the guy, wanting him to transfer is dumb as hell.
I’m not familiar with this QB coach, but I think he does a good job of summing up his limited observations of JG.
- He saw JG play at a camp between his junior and senior year and felt he was very talented for a hs QB entering his senior year
- He paused, then in a “politically correct” fashion, added that he thought JG hasn’t developed like he thought he would while at Tennessee...
- There’s been an onslaught of commentary from all of us on JG, so I’m not going to regurgitate those comments again.
I think we should hire an Offensive Coordinator who excels in QB coaching. I do know that Helton wasn’t good at it. I’ve been shocked at his inability to teach and instill basic QB fundamentals.

Really? Win what...5..maybe 6 games max? His 1 TD per game average isn't really setting the world on fire.. He is a QB placeholder until Pruitt finds a good one, that is all.
Really hard to say what JGs ceiling is with that abysmal OL. Also last game was his worst of the season and I suspect he wasn't fully over that concussion from the week before.
1.4 seconds isn't a lot of time to get the ball out effectively...even for Peyton.

He does it well. The read and calling protection is pre snap, going through the progression of receivers is after the snap. JG is not not good at either. He holds the ball way too long.
Going to be a lot of disappointed people who don't know anything about football when JG is the unquestioned starter in the spring and fall.
Too many ignorant statements to address individually.
Shrout 51% 26 ints and far behind JG this year isn't catching and passing him up. You are smoking meth if you think that.
JG is a good SEC qb and probably All SEC next year. The one saying he isn't an SEC qb said the same things about Dobbs but thought Dormady was a NFL prospect.
Y'all are clueless.
He just set two school records in his first full season as a starter and you think he should be contemplating transferring? I'm sorry but are you truly mentally handicapped? There is no other reasonable explanation, unless there is a methane leak at your house, you should get that checked.JG will have plenty of competition in the spring if he stays into the spring. It is certainly time JG evaluate what is best for him. Many times when a freshman gets on campus or in spring practice or even the first game they play in they can tell if they have the " it " factor.
JG situation may be like coach Helton. That being this transfer may be the best thing for him and for UT. There is a couple QB's probably going to really pressure him.
The fan base has certainly soured on JG. I went into work yesterday and a guy that doesn't even have internet to see what is said about JG said " Tennessee will never win as long as that kid is QB" . There is a larger part of fans who feel that way than those who do think he could be successful.
Saban made a decision last year. Kirby made his decision. They were hard decisions to make but they made what they thought was best for the team.
Pruitt better not be hard headed. He better do what is best for the team. His longevity will depend on it. JG is a good kid and I hope he is successful. I just don't see it happening here.
Just so others can read it again. What's going to be funny is if we get another QB transfer (e.g. Jalen Hurts) and JG beats him out.
The "blame JG for all our problems" crowd has, at various points, championed Will McBride (now 4th string), Keller Chryst (2nd string and clearly struggled more than JG), and JT Shrout. In their eyes, the only thing holding back the team is JG; not the horrid O-line; not a defense that gave up 38 points to Vandy and couldn't stop South Carolina on a single drive from late 2nd Quarter onwards. Everything is JG's fault.
And then he just keeps beating out all the competition.
The problem is not JG, people.
He's not perfect. He needs to improve in some areas. But he's the least of our problems.
You make JG the starting QB for Alabama this season and Bama is still 12-0 and rolling into the SEC Championship Game. The other 21 positions on the field matter, too.
Thank you k-town for stating this. It is amazing how they think a guy who threw 26 ints in high school is going to supplant the guy who just 3 this year in the SEC. I would hate see what would happen to Shrout behind the line we have this year or next year.
I love how you act like he has never had a multi touchdown game, he has had four, all against sec defenses, this year. But you act like he is the only player that has been inconsistent this year. Your trope is a joke.I guess by that logic we shouldn't be surprised the JG has the same stats after 3 years in a college program, that he had as a senior in high school.

1 passing TD/game seems to be over-achieving even...
He get's more than 1.4 seconds, the oline isn't good, but they don't collapse on every play.
Here's every pass from the WVU game, count the time after the snap.
Every pass VS ETSU
