So all the talk about him wanting him when he was first putting his staff together was BS?
I think his name came up for sure. But I don’t think it was ever seriously pursued.

A lot of this is Freeze begging for any job he can get and making it known to media members in college towns that he’s interested.

The streets talk lol no anytime a hire is made within Football they have to run it by power players. Right or wrong that’s how we didn’t hire Kevin steele under Dooley and how fulmer wound up with clawson.

Define power players?

Are you talking paid university employees up the food chain from the AD and how far up is the top or the folks with deep pockets that have either nuked or let nuking happen to our program for a decade?

This is interesting. I know you hear enough to doubt you, but it directly contradicts the few tidbits I’ve been able to get.
Freeze wants the job. That i know for sure. I know that his name has been discussed to people and it hasn’t been ruled out or shot down yet. That’s what’s giving me hope

Alabama Scoring Offense

2018 49.0 PPG
2017 37.1
2016 38.8
2015 35.1
2014 36.9
2013 38.2
2012 38.7
2011 34.8 (McElwain)
2010 35.7 (McElwain)
2009 32.1 (McElwain)
2008 30.1 (McElwain)

So pretty much, at best, you can say McElwain ran the least effective offenses in the Bama dynasty, though not to a great extent. Once again... when given Bama ingredients, you will produce. When he had to manufacture his own magic at Florida, it was as horrific as shark week.

Freeze absolutely wants it. Just like he wants any job that pays him more than the minor league football gig he’s currently got.

I really don’t think Pruitt has any interest - which is why it won’t happen.

You could totally be right though. If the top guys we want turn us down Pruitt might be inclined to take a chance.

How are you glazing over the worst offenses in Florida history when he was running the show. An offense so easy “his dog could play QB”, but his quarterbacks were awful

What anyone accomplished at Bama is near irrelevant. Larry Scott could set records with those players.

People give him no credit for how good Florida's defense was his first two years because they were all "Muschamp's" guys. Weren't they all Muschamp's guys on offense too? How many of those offensive players are Sunday guys now?

His offense at UF looked good when he had Grier, it was after that when he was trying to piece an offense together using spit and glue that they sucked.

I'm not trying to defend his results at Florida, I'm just saying he checks all of the boxes for what I think Pruitt will be looking for.

Secondly, with regard to your comment that "what anyone accomplished at Bama being irrelevant", two points: (1) Swamp Donkey arrived in Tuscaloosa in Saban's year 2 -- Bama wasn't "BAMA" at that point. His offense helped make them who they are now. and (2) if what anyone accomplished there is irrelevant, then why is Jeremy Pruitt our head coach?

Now do Time of Possession and offensive plays per game. Don't you remember that Alabama ran a completely different offense in the McElwain era? They were a ball control, pro style offense. Some would even call it a boring offense. Pruitt was on that staff and saw how effective it was. That is what Pruitt wants to run here.

In all seriousness though, my prediction is that we end up just promoting Friend and either just hiring a new assistant or promoting someone like Osovet to be QB or RB coach (depending on if Weinke moves to QBs).

It’s not the route I would go personally, but I’m not gonna complain too much about it if it happens. I could see Pruitt thinking/feeling that, as much as anything, the offensive staff not being on the same page really hurt us this year. Just having a staff that’s all on the same page would probably result in at least moderately better results.

Lol
Well done

I was thinking the OP would be smart enough to find one good coach that made the jump without power experience. It does happen it's rare but I assumed he would know Malzon did it. I thought Freeze might have done it as well but he did have position coaching at a power 5 school on his resume

And Urban Meyer was never a position coach at a Power 5 school before being hired as the Head Coach at Florida.

Utah was in the Mountain West when Urbs was there.

He was a Grad Assistant at Ohio St.

Granted, he was a WR coach at Norte Dame, but they aren't a P5 school...at least not in football. 😁

So, your point is moot. Being a position coach at a P5 school is not always an important part of a resume.

But hey, you're like my teenager...will argue anything.

Uh, Nick, hmm, I don't want to argue, but, uh, you know, maybe some other guys, but Scott, uh, not really, but I could be wrong, but I kind of doubt it, sort of anyway.

On second thought, I'd probably agree with you if Bama had a really top notch intern overseeing him, you know what I mean?

This sparked interest in their defense. This will be the 11th season in a row they’ve fielded a top 7 defense.
