Did Helton blindside Pruitt

This is interesting... so, it would be in Helton’s best interest if TN didnt make it to a bowl game (if he had the wku thing on lock down). It would give him a chance to get to work at new job without having to either leave tn before a bowl, or get a later start at new diggs. Very interesting. I dunno, i just wonder if he IS that kind of dude.
Very good point

Any coach is capable of that for the right price sadly

Of the healthy remaining members of the O line, is there anyone you could point to to suggest they got better as the season went along?

I can't.

And if a coach can't get his players to buy in, then maybe that's partially a coaching problem as well.

Other than knowing Drew Richmond was a joke, I do not know how the other players performed in relation to their ability. As far as players not buying in , I would consider that a character issue for the players rather than the coaches fault. Everyone talks here on Volnation that there needs to be a culture change in the program.

All I know is Nashville is a recruiting zone for Western Kentucky, and turning in a losing performance against Vandy make sense if their new head coach Is Helton.

Seems to me to didn't get along because their philosophies clashed. I can't remember what game it was but we were up 24 in the 1st half. The 2nd half we scored 7 points. You could see JP on the sideline screaming at helton to run the ball.

To me, Helton seem like a Sean McVay /Sean Payton, we got him down let's stand on their throat. Whereas, pruitt is a Phillip Fulmer type. We're up 10 points in the 3rd quarter, run the ball 3 straight times and punt.

How bet anyone, anyone on here, that Western Kentucky offense will be completely different from what was ran here. I very seriously doubt you will see one I formation call from helton. Anyone want some of this action?

Whoever the next OC is, I bet it’s CJP decision. I’m sure Fulmer will counsel but ultimately it’s Pruitt’s decision.

I'll cut my wrists if this happens
It won’t. We need a QB coach. Thats why Helton got the job to start with. If Friend gets promoted, we’ll end up with an unproven OC and an unproven QB coach because most good QB coaches are also coordinators

Our offensive line personnel blow, outside of Trey. They sucked last year, on the first play of this year, our center got blown up for like a 5 yard loss. Friend has been a successful OL coach before, but the previous staff basically put dog crap in his frying pan and now you guys are screaming at Friend for not being able to make meatloaf out of it.

I don't see how Will Friend is even a candidate for OC when earlier this year it was reported that the AD Fulmer was helping coach the o-line a little in practice. What next is Fulmer going to be in the booth helping Friend call plays. If Will Friend is named OC it might be worth another Schiano Sunday around here.

Only one getting emotional about it here is you.

I am simply saying there wasnt much improvement in what Friend did have to work with on the o line.

And it shouldn't take much of a coach with SEC caliber players to push around a team like UNCC.

Speaking of SEC players and recruiting. That center you referred to getting blown up against WVU. His name was Brandon Kennedy and he transferred here from Bama last June long after Jones was gone so that excuse doesn't fly in your example.

Yeah, and the guy that got blown up on the first play was shortly thereafter injured and out for the year so we had to start someone worse than a Bama cast-off for the rest of the year. Our OL did not have SEC caliber players, that's my whole point. Friend didn't forget how to coach, he had nothing to work with this year.

i didnt even think about this too! we will never know for sure (how could we?) but if in fact this is what happened... it speaks VOLUMES to Helton's character. Pruitt had the job here, but he didnt sandbag while finishing up with Bama (although Bama being Bama, it might have been ALOT more evident if he had).

Then again, if his prime recruiting turf would be Nashville area... is rolling over and helping create a stronger Vandy in his favor?

Oher commited to Ole Miss while Coach O was coach at Ole Miss. Freeze coached at Ark. St. I believe before being hired by Ole Miss.

Hugh was at Briarcrest still and he got hired on at Ole Miss in support role after Oher signed. Freeze got Ole Miss into a little trouble with the NCAA since he was recruiting kids to Ole Miss before he was hired...

The Oher recruitment was nowhere near as sweet as set forth in the Blind Side.

Maybe he would be better at O.C. than working with the OL. Apparently his offenses put up good numbers in his role as O.C. before.

I think it's likely that it was Bobo's offense at CSU and Friend was calling the plays. My concern is that Friend doesn't have an offense. Sure, maybe he called the plays but was it his system? I think we need someone that has a proven system to run.

Edit: I see that someone posted an article about this very thing. So we know now that he was not the play caller at CSU.

Thanks for the info. I thought he went from Briarcrest to Ark. St.

Have you ever stopped to think just maybe he is actually trying to hire a good one which doesn’t happen in hours especially if they are still coaching?

New O.C. may be working for a program that is in the SECCG and wont announce it until next week OR he may be 90% set on Friend but wants to interview a couple of others before announcing it. For instance, he may have a top #3 on his list and if none of the top #3 are a reality, then he settles for Friend.

We, as a fan base, don't know. Remember all of the past hires that were made? Gruden is 100% our next coach. No, Mike Leach is 100% our next coach. etc .etc.
