The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Going to be Will Friend. He’ll do whatever Pruitt wants.

That kind of mentality tends to get your ass fired around year 3...

Supposedly Friend did a nice job as OC at Colorado State and would have been a credible hire for that position out of the gate. Who knows.

Regardless, it's probably going to be someone Pruitt knows and is already comfortable with, because his whole job more or less depends on getting this hire right. Which means it is probably not going to be the bright shiny object everyone is hoping for.

I read where Mike Bobo mostly called plays when Friend was there. I can’t remember what outlet I read it from though. I agree though, he wants it to succeed far more than we do.

I think Pruitt would be more or less crazy to bring in someone whom he doesn't know, has no idea how well they'll work together, etc., especially given that Pruitt himself has a reputation for being notoriously prickly and demanding and hard to work with. (I wonder if Pruitt himself is self-aware enough to know that?)

If Pruitt goes with the known commodity from inside, he will be the one receiving all the cannon fodder if and when it goes bad. Hence my previous comment.

But if it goes bad he's going to take all the heat anyway. Let's say he hires Kingsbury, whom he (hypothetically) does not know well, but is a brand name that would excite everyone. And then let's say it doesn't work out once they start working together, and they're screaming at each other by spring, the offense sucks in 2019 again, and Kingsbury's gone. Oops. Nobody in Tennessee would give Pruitt any slack at all because at well least he tried by hiring someone famous.

Fans want a splash hire every single time there's an opening. 95 percent of the time it's not a splash.

(Bob Shoop was the only splash hire we've made in forever and it didn't work out because......he and the head coach couldn't work together.)
