Pruitt wants to run an old-school smashmouth offense. We didn't have the personnel to run it this year, but he didn't want to change what he wants to do. He doesn't want a guy with a different offensive philosophy. He had that with Helton.

Then wtf did he hire him?

A tie that hasn’t been reported yet:

Will Friend was a GA at Georgia when Bryan McClendon was a running back there.

They also worked together in close quarters at Georgia from 2011-2014. Friend was the OL/run game coordinator and McClendon was the RB coach. They have a successful history of creating gameplans and implementing them.

Like I said, I believe we contacted him today and that we will talk in more depth in the coming days. McClendon is interested if the money is right. He knows the ceiling in higher at Tennessee.

More I think about fit and style Pruitt is going to want the more I think the realistic names are Enos, Lindsey, McElwain, Probst, Friend/Weinke combo with a promotion of Osovet or Lilly to fill time assistant moving either johnson to RB coach and Osovet to WRs or Neids to RB and Lilly to TE.

Pruitt is going to want someone that can fit into that room that everyone trust and is on same page. Helton was sort of the outsider. Friend/Weinke/Lilly/Neids are familiar with Pruitts wants. Johnson being WR coach doesn't matter what system. Any of those guys above would be able to fit into that room and run the style of offense Pruitt and that group wants to run which is that Pro Style Bama/Richt/UGA/Fisher principles.

Mac Florida issue just were odd offensively. His first 2 years you could see him scheme people wide open all day but they would just miss execution and then all of a sudden it clicked with Grier and they went HAM then he got in trouble and it was over. Bailey and Mac have a connection and Florida was always considered the favorite to land him until he left and now he just happens to be at Michigan. Curious if that will come into play

I would be on board with Jake Spavital but he may be off limits. My west Virginia buddies are saying Holgerson is in play at Texas Tech especially if Brent Venables says no and Spavital would be their #1 option.

Vq made a great point that the issue there would be BMAC is due for a HC job and your likely looking at replacing OC in Pruitt yr 3 in that move as SC will be lucky if BMAC doesn't get a HC job this offseason being a young AA coach. east Carolina is already looking into him

That’s all probably true. But I don’t think you can operate under the fear that your coach will do a good job get a promotion.

If he fits and you think he’s good you make the hire.

Helton style not all that different imo. Just think he brings some other principles that Pruitt thought would mesh well with what Friend would bring in. I think it was a fine thought and showed signs at times that it can work. We just didn't have the players for any system to probably work too well with a crap OL. I think it was more to do with too many cooks in the kitchen and heltons lack of resume probably led to more people challenging him than he would like. That's why I think you need to bring in a voice with experience that can control a room of opinions

Weinke is a candidate according to 247.

Rich rod will be the number one option up there if holgerson goes. Trust me I know the president of coal association and has been in the works just in case for a while.
