I think Mack Brown is like a Rick Barnes hire. Not the best hire ever but a really good one considering the school.

That being said, Barnes was the greatest hire ever.

If you were happy with Pruitt before today and thought he was going to get it done hiring friend shouldn't change that thinking at all. If anything you should be happy as we all saw Helton Struggle. No reason to have any reaction at all really if that's the hire

I do have this sick, underlying feeling that Helton has this WKU putting up 40s and 50s in the first few years. Granted, that's a whole different league and level of competition, but it wouldn't make me feel any more confident that Pruitt isn't meddling in the offense. My gut tells me that Pruitt's the one screaming for all the first and second down rushes, not Helton. If we see Pruitt hire someone from the Saban tree that doesn't have any experience teaching different systems, this may be confirmation that we're looking at a few years of "we ain't passing unless its 3rd and long or we're down 17."

If you look at usc when he was there they were 10 to 20 yard passing team and I do not think he was calling the plays but he might have had some input on that. With tee that are even worse so mark him off too.

I really hope this isn't the case. If it is, we'll be doing another coaching search in 2021 or earlier.

If you have Alabama level talent, especially a defense that never breaks, you can win a whole mess of games with a rush-heavy, power game. If you're trying to rebuild a program populated with players meant for a speed-based spread system, that square won't fit in any round hole.

I have no idea what you are trying to say but Lincoln Riley proves my point very well. He paid his dues and moved up the ladder exactly the way one should.
Position coach- OC then HC all at the big boy level
East Carolina OC...that your idea of “big boy”?

In all honesty it’s going to be hard for me to get pumped whoever it is. We’ve had can’t miss hires that missed, underwhelming hires that worked out, underwhelming hires that very emphatically didn’t work out...it’s Pruitt’s bus ultimately, so we’ll see. I’m just trying to maintain a “show me” attitude, whoever it is.

If so status quo. Feelings toward the staff shouldn't change imo
This just isn't true. We are confident in Pruitt because he is an elite recruiter and quite possibly the best defensive coach in college football. The one hire that he has to get right is OC. If he promotes Friend and he turns out to be no better than Helton, we will not be competitive. He doesn't have to hire Hugh Freeze. But with the money we were paying Helton, he can do a lot better than Will Friend. Get somebody with big time play calling experience and turn the offense over to them and let them run the show. That's what Kirby did in hiring Chaney. Chaney isn't an elite OC, but he's good, and he has a lot of experience. Pruitt needs to do the same thing.

lol you really are having a hard time.

Riley was a position coach in the big12-then got an OC job at ECU- then OC at OU- then HC

He actually took an extra step in there so thanks for proving my point even further as Riley clearly paid his dues moving up the ladder

So Auburn is going to pull a Tubbs/Petrino fiasco all over again without gus/Stoops then end up with Gus as dead man walking again for a yr. at least I hope it plays out that way. Don't want stoops coming in there at least not until after ESD
