Reading Chip Lindsey’s bio is all I need to see to think he’s the guy.

- Alabama and Georgia high school experience and recruiting ties
- worked at Hoover
- successful OC experience as a playcaller
- SEC experience
- none of the baggage Freeze has (that Title IX lawsuit still has to be fresh on the minds of university administrators)

The pitch is probably as simple as “we will pay you more than Auburn and you won’t have Gus second-guessing you at every turn.”

Also keep an eye out for Jim McElwain for OC.
I mentioned this to my brother a couple weeks ago. Honestly don’t think he would be a bad hire for us. Head coaching experience, decent recruiter, and will probably give us a good enough offense to win games

I have agreed that we probably won’t make him pay, since I think Pruitt is ready to move on too and we will do what we can to help make this happen for Helton.

But this is irrelevant. I don’t know the answer to your question because it is not easy to just google and find OC contracts, and I am not going to invest a significant amount of time in trying to dig them up. I think it’s pronably likely that most assistant coaches would not owe a buyout if they take a promotion (however that is defined) at a non-competitive school, but when you offer a first-time playcaller $3.6M guaranteed, it’s not your normal situation and there’s a much stronger argument that he should be locked down.
Pruitt had to sweeten the pot to pry him away from his brother. That would get sour if he put a poison pill in fine print. I believe it was assumed that Helton would flourish this season and would eventually be in demand for his own show...2-3 years time. The flourishing part didn’t exactly happen, but he’s on a list. Pruitt made $1.3 mil at Bama and didn’t pay a crimson cent to jump to another SEC school...as a HC. If he had tried to bounce to be a DC, he would have had to pony up. So you believe he’d have the stones to ask differently of his first hire? It’s wise not to look for examples...they don’t exist...for a reason.
