That’s the coaching circle of life.
At least Pruitt understands that it needs to be done now and not next year, that’s encouraging at least.

He's our head coach. He deserves blame for hiring the guy in the first place. Also deserves blame for piss poor performance.

Yeah, but I doubt they're okay with throwing money around. I think they viewed the staff concessions as an investment, and the ROI has been disappointing. Fulmer put himself on the line, giving a rookie HC staffing autonomy, and the most important, most expensive hire turned out to be a bad decision. Buyouts are costly, and UT has had a lot of them. Fortunately, Helton probably wants out so they may be able to negotiate terms.
Maybe butch goes back to central michigan and saves us some money

Is Pruitt just free of blame now that he's firing the OC? We just went through this guys. Hopefully he doesn't hire Debord.

Get this Bama loser off my field.

Free of blame? No. But the alternative is another huge payout followed by a coaching search that leads to another unproven coach because the UT admin will never cough up the money for a big time hire. Is that what you really want? That would be idiotic.

It’s going to be a mutual parting so Helton will land somewhere. This has been in the making for a few weeks now.

That last part is crucial. I’ve heard the same - that Helton wasn’t happy with the arrangement this season either.

If we’re lucky his brother will land on his feet somewhere and will need an offensive coordinator.

Not at all. But the guy made nearly 0 progress this year. I withheld judgement too long on Butch even though the signs were there. This time I'm saying Pruitt was a crappy hire and he's a crappy coach. Hope he proves me wrong but I'm pretty confident he won't.

It hasn't exactly been a secret, but they have to come to terms and it has to go through the board and legal. There's money on the table.

Yeah, he took an undersized, slow team that had won 0 SEC games and beat two ranked teams -Auburn and Kentucky. I do not call that no progress

Dobbs was the only real DT QB we had though. Which is Butch's fault but still.

Butch should have recruited nothing but highly athletic guys. I think his offense would have done just fine even if he had to rely on guys who weren't great passers but were fast and quick.

Jennings probably couldve ended up working out at QB if he had the right coaches around him lol

His offense was good under dobbs so yea. If he has an actual run threat at QB waiting he’s probably still here

Just not a great fit. It would be tough for Pruitt and Helton to work together next year... but they could make it work, with concessions. Would be hard to walk it back from today, though.

Butch recruited Dobbs. CBJ offense is very similar to what many teams are running including Alabama before Tua. His staff really whiffed on too many OLine recruits. Failure to recruit and develop OLinemen is what doomed CBJ. It did not help that Debord left.
