Please explain.

Ok here is the story. Lets travel back to 2008. Tennessee football was still very relevant. We had our second losing season in 16 years under Fulmer. 2007 we won the East. So Hammy wanted Fulmer gone. Ok, stupid decision but lets go with it. So onto the coaching search. Now, we had a proven winner that wanted the job and was ready to take over. That man was Gary Patterson. So what hapoened? Well Hamilton was more concerend with fundraising than winning. So he runs Patterson off. Does that explain it?

Hamilton wanted a fundraiser, so he hired Kiffin?

Hamilton started this dumpster fire. If you are in disagreement you are either 10 years old or you don’t keep up. Cause and effect folks.
Fulmer started the fire by letting the program erode. Hamilton poured gasoline on it in November 2008 by deciding to hire Kiffin instead of Gary Patterson or Brian Kelly. Then he burned the entire house down in January 2010 when he panicked and hired Dooley.

Actually, it does as Hamilton's actions, along with Jimmy Haslam's, has caused a chain reaction this past decade to where we have now become Derek Mason's and Vandy's bitch.
Naw bro, Hamilton had nothing to do with this team not being prepared to play vandy, not dooley, not jones, not fulmer.

He did. Patterson wanted it. Hamilton wanted a fundraiser nit a winning coach.
At the time, I thought that Kiffin was THE hire to make. Now looking back, we should have gone with Gary Patterson. I think that he would still be our Head Coach today and the program would still be competitive. Now, Patterson wouldn't whiz on us if we were on fire. And I can't blame him.

It had nothing to do with fundraising. Hamilton bought what Kiffin was selling. He loved the idea of Lane bringing Monte and Ed Orgeron with him. Plus he did what a lot of athletic directors do, hire the exact opposite of the guy you just fired. Fulmer was viewed as old and stale, so go hire the young brash HC.

Kiffin did absolutely nothing to desreve to be the HC at TN. Nothing at all. He was hired because of his charisma and promises. Thats it.

Typical revisionist worshipper. 2 of his last 4 seasons were losing ones.
Fulmer was definitely much better with an OC named Cutcliffe - not so much with Sanders and definitely not with Clueless Clawson. I still wonder how much of Fulmer's later recruiting problems may have originated in negative recruiting by Bama and others in revenge for the Albert Means scandal. With a better OC pick and another year, there's a good chance the last ten years would never have happened, but if bullfrogs had wings ...

There were several and an elite qb makes a huge difference instead we had frat boy
Jarvis Giles? Jeron Stokes? I guess you could consider DJ Swearinger, but that class was destined to finish in the mid-teens. The jucos that were committed turned out to be complete busts.

Firing Fulmer wasn’t a mistake, even hiring Lane wasn’t a mistake. The panic hiring of Dooley was his downfall.
Shouldn’t you be on Hogville talking about Morris

Maybe Kiffin would have worked out
I believe he would have either won, or had us on probabtion
He’s Slippery

Hog is right. Instead of hiring Dooley, we should’ve let Kippy run the program for a year while we searched for the guy. Ahhh, revisionist stuff. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Hope your thanksgiving was a good one too.

It's definitely not still hamiltons fault. He really made the good decision to replace fulmer when it became obvious all our rivals had passed us by. The real mistake he made was not having a huge buyout for kiffin. If kiffin would've been here for 4 years at very least he'd have brought in a ton of talent. But the very top of the university has been terrible. The selection of hart and curry were both terrible. And it's been said over and over that the administration hasn't wanted to invest the money necessary to land the best candidates. There's a lot of good coaches we could've had if we'd have done things differently. Justin Fuente, James franklin, and who knows who else might've taken the job if we'd have had the right ad in place.
