We’d usually go to her family’s house. We went to NY last year.

But with 2 kids, I’m kind of tired of traveling to see everyone. They can come here for once (they do visit, but you know what I mean).
Good for you!

I told everyone when my kids were little that we would not travel during the holidays. Three kids under 5 on the road, huh-uh.

Now 30-something years later, I’m the grandma, and we’ll be doing any traveling. lol

I’m going with a new perspective this year, hopefully. Patience. On holidays, it’s usually like go go go. Family, in laws, back home, wake up, another dinner Friday. I just want to relax and watch the Almighty work this year. And try not to be in a big rush or be stressed out. Take it all in. Here’s to hoping.

I’m about to go through the second part of what I call the gauntlet in my field of work. Just finished a week of cooking for three dinners, one of which was for 300. Very rewarding. Next up, All the Christmas dinners I will be doing in the next three weeks. I probably need a case of monster drinks and a beer or two to unwind.

One more thing, I work for a senior living facility. The holidays are always so sad there. I’ve worked there for several years and every year, it’s the same. Most of our residents spend their holidays without anyone besides the staff and other residents. There are a small majority of families that come, but most will not. My wish and hope is that if any of you have elderly that are in extended care facilities, please take the time to go see them, or Just go even if you don’t. You would be surprised how rewarding it will make you feel.

I’ll be cooking ham, mashed potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, broccoli salad, and CORNBREAD dressing, then taking it all to our neighbors. Our two families have enjoyed Thanksgiving together for the last 4 or 5 years.

PS - I’ll be the lone Vol among dawg, rebel, and elephant fans but I’ll hold my own!

My family moved to Kingston after my senior year of high school, When I joined the Navy, they moved to Montego Bay. Ahh, the stories and memories. 🙂

I can imagine. I read your other post on here. Oddly my wife’s degree is in healthcare policy with a specialty in long term care. Brother, it takes a special type of person to go into that field, hats off to you.
If you ever get down this way, stop by for some brown stew chicken. Or if it’s early we’ll whip you up some eggs, salt fish and akee!

Packing up the family and heading to In-laws for dinner about an hour away. Mama-in-law does most of the cooking. Hoping to catch a nap, watch a little football, and come back home by bedtime for the kids. I may run to Walmart later tomorrow night to see if anything’s left. Hopefully just mostly a relaxing day spent with family.

I’d be the sister, 😉. Would love some true jerk or stew peas and rice. Always welcome here also and will show you and your family where to find a beef patty (good one) and know where to find some true scotch bonnet sauce (Grace Foods).

I keep hoping that one day I will learn to ask rather than shoving my foot in my mouth with an assumption! 😁

My mother in law teaching me how to make proper and authentic Jamaican dishes. I love that woman but she has her work cut out for her!

I might have to send you some $$ for the scotch bonnet sauce! And don’t get me started on a good beef patty...

Go to Razzleberrys (might be spelt wrong) in Oak Ridge. If you are familiar with Oak Ridge, not hard to find. I buy just about all they have when I’m there. The closest on a true beef patty, go to Ingles in west Knoxville in (believe it or not) their microwave section. Have it in hot or mild (lol, as if there was anything other than hot with scotch bonnet). If don’t live close, don’t mind helping a Vol Fan out.

I sort of feel like I’ve hijacked this thread. Then again it is the “off topic” thread. At any rate, I’ll take this up with you again soon. I gotta get some sleep because the twins won’t have “I was talking food” as an excuse for me to sleep in and delay their breakfast.
You ma’am, along with everyone else celebrating the holiday, have a peaceful night and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

This actually happened Tuesday night, but it's made my Thanksgiving Day special. I work over almost every night until 4, but my shift ends at 12. My wife kept texting me to come home on time because I needed rest she said for my family that was coming. I came in right after 12, and saw a bunch of blankets piled on thelove seat, but didn't pay attention to it. I walked into our room for a minute, and when I went back to the living room, there stood my oldest daughter who is in the Air Force. She completely surprised us, we thought it would be next week before we saw her. I gotta admit, it made me cry.
