that probably wouldn't have been a bad combo deal truthfully speaking. but...i'd rather have that as my OC/DC combo, and probably someone else as HC.....

but Arkansas is probably one of the few teams that was in as bad or worse shape as us, roster wise. who do they have that you've heard of? really?

Arkansas is just a tough place to win today. he's putting together a solid class this season. it'll be interesting to see what htey look like 3-4 years as well.

Mortified that i actually had Taggert on the call list.

There was a big turn on this board. The first half of the coaching search was everyone saying that Currie is a ninja, a superstar, who wouldn’t let money stop him from hiring the best coach in the world. Heck, we might even get Gruden. If not Gruden, we’ll pay Chris Petersen 10 mil to coach here! We were confident.

Then there was the other half after we learned that Currie was an incompetent fraud being ordered around by Haslam and his ilk and that he didn’t care about winning at all, just money and buildings. During the Schiano/borin Doeren debacle, we would have taken almost anyone else. We went from confident to desperate real quick. Thankfully papaw Phil saved us.

Peoples opinions of others change when you find out their true colors. I used to despise Pruitt but turned out his issues were overblown and he comes off more real than most coaches. Plus seeing so many former players vouch for him. Like Trezman said he visited Bama and all their players raved about Pruitt.

Curry and butch put on smoke and mirrors. Made people think they were something they were not but they ended up sleeze balls.

Basically 2 bullshitters telling you what you want to hear vs the guy telling you what you don't want to hear. Not suprising that nobody vouches for the other 2

Might be the angle and distance playing tricks.

....but that is coming from someone who would love for this to be JJ.

How cool would it be for Pruitt/Probst to pull off the biggest troll job ever on VN and JJ come out and have an AA type game?
Nah it’s Nyles Gaddy. He’s 6’4.5

It's hilarious that Currie's incompetence and utter disregard for the program was interpreted by most of us as him being savvy as hell and one step ahead of the game.

Yeah, I fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Part of me believes he wasn’t as bad at the job as it seems now and that at the last minute he was told to go with Schiano by the people above him. I don’t know.

All I know is the people I talk to were very confident in him going into the search.

Would anyone be suprised if Franklin goes to USC? Penn st is his dream job but he hasn't done anything there without morehead. Yr before and after JM are red flags for sure.

yeah. i would have disagreed with that lol.

i had my list kinda broken up in to "you make the call because you better not find out later you didn't" then "your real targets" and finally the "if all else fails, break glass" list.

peterson, patterson, stoops, kelly were some of hte names in the first list.

Mullen, Frost, venebles, kiffin were some of the ones in the 2nd list

morris, norvell, fedora...guys like that in the 3rd list.

This looks bad now but i still think he’s gonna make some serious noise out at UCLA.
I still believe in Kelly and Taggart. One bad year doesn’t kill them for me.

Morris might not make it but I think that has a lot to do with Arkansas being a ****** job.

I was too man. Very confident. He handled the baseball search beautifully. Everything he did by that point was good. Was very good to all athletic staff, brought back lady Vols, was raising money and making improvements.

And then he actually had to go to work....

I remember laughing out loud several times during the Faintin' Kevin Steele portion of the coaching search. All of the Hubbs "I steele can't rule Kevin Steele out" puns and scenarios involving him passing out cold on the sidelines when Florida hits a deep bomb against us.
The Ron Swanson Kevin Steele optimistic posts would have been gold lol.

In fairness, I’d probably be right there with him lol

yeah. i kinda feel the same way. the only thing though, that Taggart has going for him is that he can rercurit and he's in a target rich environment.

bottom line wiht him, he's going to find himself in a year or two in a situation where there will be "no excuses".

That is one thing i can proudly say i never once took the bait on. He is awful and would’ve been maybe the worst hire we could’ve made lol.

Morris should have went big 12 or acc. He will have Arky competitive based on his system and recruiting. He doesn't need highest calbre athlete to have nice offense. Chavis can have capable defense. Problem is the division is so brutal it may never turn into wins. I like Chad. Think he is one of the good ones in the profession. Probably picked the wrong spot though

In the offseason Cole Cubelic said Tennessee is basically the hardest job in the SEC. The fan expectations are enormous and the fanbase is highly combustible and will turn on you quickly. The administration is bogged down by infighting and instability. The instate talent is solid but not sufficient to sustain the program at at least a mediocre level in down times (unlike Florida, etc). And new coaches usually inherit a miserable roster in the face of all these negative headwinds.

After watching the coaching search (No one on any of our top 10 lists was remotely interested) and how this season has gone and how many people are looking for reasons to turn on Pruitt and this coaching staff so soon, I think he’s probably right.
