Trump says US will institute tariffs on steel and aluminum imports next week

Who benefited? Those not involved in trade process? The market hasn't even adjusted yet. Lets see if your'e still all happy when the consumer gets a price increase.
Dude..... I didn't say anything about being happy...... but the truth is that while some are hurt..... others benefit. It just depends on the industry or market segment you're in. It's like Huff mentioned.... there are winners and losers..... and individuals are just victims of circumstance

Who is benefiting? Haven’t talked to one single person who is benefiting

Who is benefiting?
Think about it like this... you're an American steel mfg. or distributor.... 25% tariffs are put in place on steel imports.... you're typically 5-8% higher than the imports....but all of the sudden you're 15% less.... what do you do?.... yep.... you raise your price 12%.... make bigger profits... but you're still cheaper than the Chinese ...life is good.
This was the easiest example I could think of, but there are other niches out there too.

Yeah but that’s not how the math works out lol. I’m in the industry. Nobody is going American

That is how the math works. If they're not going American it's either because the price is still too high.... they need a type/grade of steel not mfg in the US.... the US mfg makes ****..... customer service sucks balls.... they're communist sympathizers...etc

You in the steel industry? Defendthishouse is in the steel biz.... he'd be a good one to bring into this discussion. He'd have an on the ground perspective

I've got a customer that supports or provides goods and services that support steel mfg and they're busting ass right now

I didn't say I was cool with it... but it's the truth.

Speaking of winners and losers.... I think putting ethanol in gasoline sucks balls.... you and I lose while Floyd and Jack over in Nebraska and Iowa are thinking it's great

So you're against the tariffs and USMCA?

Yes. That sucks. It all sucks. Stop supporting central planners like Trump snd Obama.

I think you are assuming that GM continues to purchase from China and pay the tariff, they are not. My wife's company found another source, I am sure GM is doing what it has to do as well. China is shipping their materials to other markets but not at the same profit. Everyone is adjusting in some way. It will take some time to sort the winners and losers.

Not specifically steel but we have some steel products.
What impacts have you seen on your employer's business? I have one customer that lost an annual job that he's had for over ten years that typically invoiced around $300,000. He lost it due to the type of steel that has used and it's not manufactured by anyone in the US..... others have said it hasn't impacted them at all.... one that makes housings for appliances said the overall impact is negligible and that the tariffs have increased the cost of a major appliance such as a washing machine around $3.....I have others that tell me they're so busy they can't keep up and are running 7 days a week instead of the normal 5.
All of these I've mentioned are in the metal working arena. I've had more conversations with these customers due to the steel tariffs.
There may be other areas of the economy getting hammered.

We are currency manipulators.

Are you for the central planning or not. You're especially evasive on this, comrade.
You need another **** taco?
I'm not a proponent of tariffs, but I'm no fan of China's butf**kery with regard to their steel dumping tactics either.

Chinese butf**kery? You are quite the wordsmith lately. I have learned 2 new phrases today. First, a slice of the damp, and now this.

Would there would be a lot more property taxes collected and construction jobs available if they had just built the factory in China? Would these Chinese workers commute from China or buy or rent in Wisconsin? Will they have their meals shipped in from China or eat in Wisconsin?

So we're distorting the market and spending native tax dollars in a strategy to collect immigrant tax dollars? That makes so much sense.

Are you inadvertently making an argument for opening up immigration? Careful there, buddy.
