The cheap shot by Missouri on Callaway was a clear targeting/ personal foul. It was on the same play as the pass interference call. The Missouri player was #8 and he smashed his shoulder into Callaway`s chin. CBS replayed it 5 or 6 times. The Missouri player should have been ejected.

I haven't seen a lot of replays, but it looked like targeting when that guy wrapped his arm around JG's neck to take him down. Was that legal? I'm looking for info on JG. Hope he's o.k..
Clothe line tackles have been illegal in all football games for a long time. Until yesterday.

well, it looked like it could've been called for sure...even JG's Vols emblem on his helmet was knocked off...that's how much of a hit he took to the head...these SEC refs are tough to deal with and nothing seems to be done about it...of course, from my viewpoint there were several more that could've been called...Marcus' hit on the sideline was another no-call that I felt should have been another Mizzou ejection, but I digress...just a bad day overall for us...just hope there's nothing serious for JG, Marcus, and a few others...

GO VOLS...BEAT VANDY!

Was a football play...Not taking up for the hit. If he had made contact with the helmet instead of shoulder pads first, would have been called. Once again just a football play. Call on the Calloway hit, should have been called!

On that note, why did Pruitt send him back in on the next series?

The hit on Jarrett was.to the backof the head. With Hubert Owen as referee,he only calls fouls, serious or minor,if the money.is right.Any game.hehead ref's in,you can see bulls...t calls or non calls.Whenever the SEC brass wants a game slanted, callHubert Owen.Tom Ritter was the same.Haven't seen him this year. The conference needs to get middle school refs to call games.

I thought this was going to be about the person who sneaked up on a police officer with a hammer to the head after the game. Had to be personal, or someone completely whacked out on drugs/booze.

I don't think he necessarily did it on purpose but it should have been flagged and since he hit him in the neck and back of the head, it should have been targeting.

Someone in Birmingham must have been scratching their nads on that play instead of viewing the replay.

I saw that as a very obvious attempt to take out JG and get him out of the game.

It was a intentional very hard hit to the back of JG's neck and that Mizzou thug should have been ejected.

Same is true of the late intentional targeting hit that took Calloway out of the game.

Those 2 were so obviously planned targeting hits to take out our starting QB and then our best WR after Calloway started seriously hurting them.

If the SEC really wants to stop this thug crap and hurting good kids then put a fine of $1 Million per intentional targeting on the school and the thug crap will stop.

Mizzou is a crap team that plays dirty as hell.

I have no idea why the SEC and all the tv networks hate Tennessee so much but it's very obvious that they do with what goes on so consistently.

VFL...GBO!!!

Fallout from the ESPN tiff over the Woodson faux heisman. At the time ESPN was the golden calf. Making money hand over fist. Single handedly determined a heisman. Built Virginia Tech into a minor power through constant hype. Untouchable.

We had the gall to call them out for the Woodson hype. And since then we are a pariah program among sportscasters. At this point it’s cultural. Most of the folks in place then have moved on but the bias is baked in.

Unfortunate but true.

Today, the refs are just bad. Yesterday, they were on the Bama payroll. Silly vols.
IMHO, the refs in the SEC "just let them play". There is less concern across the league for the health of the players. Yesterday, the refs lost control of the game on the second play. After the take down of Guarantano, it was open season. Missouri kept taking cheap shots; in the second half, the Vols started responding. Unless there are penalties to this behavior, as there are in other leagues, it will continue to happen. There should also be reviews of these plays post-game and penalties meted out. The health of the players is paramount. But, JMHO.
