I'd prefer a defensive minded head coach to an offensive minded one.

We have one of the best defensive minds in the college ranks.

Bama, Florida, West Virginia and Mizzou put an average of 50 pts on us....each!!

So many unfitting parts on defense to go along with no depth.

if leach can get 7-9 wins at wsu, he should do alot better a program like tn

Why? Different conference. Different competition. Pac 12 is an offensive conference. SEC is defensive.

I like Leach a lot, just dont think he'd have same success in SEC.

the AD's judgement WAS mike leach, til THIS AD stepped in and squashed it..so which AD's judgment do we need to trust?

Apparently we should trust the guy that wanted to get rid of Snyder and the bball coach I forgets name out of kstate. Or the guy that wanted Schiano ?

I think the "Leach couldn't win in the SEC" crowd is flat-out wrong. The Pac-12 is no cakewalk. Probably the 2nd toughest league right now. Leach is winning at arguably one of the two toughest Pac-12 jobs (alongside Oregon State). Wazzou has virtually no natural recruiting base. Leach wins with 3 stars.

Leach would absolutely win here, but it might've taken him a 4+ years. If he can win with the 3-star "leftovers" he does at Wash State, pretty sure he could win with 4 and 5 star recruits he'd get in Knoxville. I can only think of a few "elite" players that Leach has ever had and one of them was Michael Crabtree and that was the year he pulled off all the big upsets at Texas Tech and went 11-2.

Also keep in mind that Leach has minimal resources compared to Pac-12 powerhouses for defensive coaches and he still manages to find great defensive minds (this differentiates him from someone like Mike Gundy IMO). He's the full package. One of the best coaches in college football history.

That said, the ship has sailed. I think Pruitt is doing a great job turning things around right now; we'll see how things go in the long-run.

Though, part of me is sad we'll never see what Leach could've done at a major program.

I agree that Leach is a fantastic coach. I was excited about him coming and what the possibilities were. However,
Leach doesnt recruit. Literally. During the off season he spends his time at his home in Florida vacationing.

That can work in the pac 12 or big 12. Not in the SEC. He might steal a game here or there in this league but without recruiting he couldn't hold up consistently. The opposition is too good. Would be interesting to see what he could do though.

He is almost at the point where his name and record will do all the recruiting for him.

They're top 10, 8-2, and looking good tonight. Their quarterback looks solid. Any thoughts on having Mike Leach wrapped up and Fulmer torpedoing the deal?
Was he bringing that team with him? Some of you guys dont understand coaching change. It's only the coach, not the players too....

They are 10 and 1, not 8 and 2. Do you even look at facts before posting? WSU was 9 and 1 and close to 10 and 1 when you posted. Does anyone check facts? I am also a good liter of Jack in and still notice the lie of 8 and 2.

Leach at Washington State
Year 1: 3-9
Year 2: 5-6
Year 3: 3-9

If Leach had been here, you would’ve been done after year 1. It’s almost like having more than 11 games to develop your roster is a good thing sometimes...
Exactly.
People pointing out how good his record is NOW compared to our first year record?
Well, ****ing duh.

Would've had a rebuild here also and no way our "culture" boosters allow the personality of Leach, that time.
Just reality.

Experience and style probably gets Leach to 8-4 here this year.

What his ceiling would have been is hard to predict. Let’s hope Pruitt’s is higher.

Unlike Pruitt, Leach is a smart man who has an offensive system that can make lesser talent be able to hold their own against better talent. It would taken a few recruiting cycle to build, but the end result and wait would have been worth it! We and the team both, were cheated (again) by the admin.

I like Leach a lot. He's finally got some defense in his program which is why he has had 2 good seasons. I'm not convinced he'd find that level of success in the SEC though. We've seen that tried and they put up big offensive numbers but not many wins, even with a no.1 draft pick QB.

WSU is the only other game I look forward to on Saturdays because they're fun to watch. Would have enjoyed that if he was here and it would have been exciting but championships are won in the trenches. That's a time tested fact. So fun but probably not any championships.

What do you choose? A guy that will get you 7-9 wins consistently and be fun to watch. Or the unproven guy that understands the championship formula but hasn't proven he can implement? TN is chasing championships.

Do you think his wins come without winning the LOS?
Ask anyone outside the UT bubble who they would prefer to have as a head coach , CJP or CML and see what kind of answers you get.

A proven winner with a track record of making bad programs relevant. What kind of crazy person would want that guy as the HC?

Leach 11 and 24 his first three seasons then he has a winning season he better would've been fired here with the same result wouldn't have made season four.

Why didn’t experience and style help Leach to such heights in his first year at WasU? They went 4 and 8 the year before Leach took over and they went 3 and 9 his first year. Why didn’t his excellent experience and style immediately turn them around like people believe it would have with a horrible offensive line in the SEC.

The "weird" personality traits he has wouldn't be a good fit here at TN, the fan base would have tired of him quickly. Pruitt will be better in the long run, I'm looking for longevity and I think Pruitt will bring it, in time and recruiting.

-It’s the PAC 12.
-Leach has had time to build his roster.
-Leach was 3-9, 6-7, 3-9 his first 3 years there. 4-8 is the worst record in UT history.
-In 19 years as a power 5 Head Coach, Mike Leach has 0 conference titles.
-Mike Leach is a complete jerk.

Thank God we don’t have Leach.
