His 2nd head coaching stop. What else do you want to nitpick?

Its a nitpicking statement at this point. Its no disrespect as he has done a good job, but come on. Most of these coaches have no ability to even be in the running Saban didn't even play a top #25 team his 1st year... he didn't play any at Toledo.

Kirby Smart beat #22 North Carolina and #9 Auburn in 2016 his first year as head coach.

Yeah not to mention tons of people didnt want him. Thats just people desperately grasping at the I told you so argument
Maybe not "all", but "lots".

I think Tennessee did pretty well considering everything that went on, I was saying how all the armchair GMs think its so easy... you just throw 10s of millions... its just not that simple anymore. (Again, I think UT has done a solid job, but the job isn't over... same could be said of LSU, solid but it ain't over yet)

I still think the tweet is referring to SEC ranked games only but I didn’t write it so I’m not sure.

I guess we’d have to look at what Saban did year 1 at LSU for a fair comparison. He probably beat multiple ranked SEC teams that regular season. Either way, this places Pruitt into good company and provides some juice for recruiting.

His 1 job would have been Toledo. If you are only counting major jobs it would be Michigan st.

AND they were not only ranked but both were RANKED SEC opponents ... grasp that ... which means it was no fluke, not like beating a ranked ACC or C-USA squad.

...and one was from the west...how good is that...we're not biased...;)

Anyone who thinks this TN team didnt have talent is crazy. Playing well/being coached and being talented aren't the same things. Hell, look at the WRs alone that Butch managed to run off in Williams and (first year actually playing) Hurd. Naturally, Hurd wouldn't still be here as he would've been drafted as a RB, but if you add Williams to this Core with as accurate as JG is? Not sure theres a better starting WR/TE group in the country.

Talent wise we are top 15 in the country. Two years ago we were top 5 in the country. You give Pruitt that 2016 team and they beat everyone with a Bama Toss up on talent alone honestly, adding coaches who actually COACH just makes them look how they're supposed to. people jut don't like admitting that.

Yep.....those OL, LBs, and having to start 3 true freshman DBs in the secondary speaks to a boat-load of talent left behind by CBJ....

The new coach at Mississippi State beat Auburn and Texas A&M, who were ranked #8 and #16 respectively at the time.

Not that what Pruitt is doing at UT isn't impressive, but whoever tweeted that for UT didn't do their homework at all.

Turns out Pruitt is the third SEC coach to beat two unranked teams in the regular season in their first year, two years after Kirby Smart and two weeks after Moorhead.

CJP and company are doing a good job, we are seeing improvement from game to game . . . Saturday we saw a complete game from the D and a solid performance for the O, not counting the 4th quarter fumbles. We still don't have the horses up front to complete with Bama, UGA, Clemson, UM, ND, etc., this will take time to recruit and develop the players.

The season hasn't been great by any stretch but those that saw 2018 as more than a 5 to 6 win season were/are delusional. Seven wins would be phenomenal to say the least.

Hard to believe he did that with a QB that 20 of our NegaVol fans think sucks. Lol, those guys could not coach a peewee team!
Yep, JG still has a lot to work on and that record shouldn’t have happened but Kentucky DB’s couldn’t intercept a pass if it was handed to them. Nonetheless, JG played his best ball yet and threw some darn good passes and he got himself in the record books. Now, let’s hope he continues to play that good next week against Missouri and Vandy the next week. If not, I’m fixing to freaking hammer you on this forum. Oh yeah, did you play college football? I meant to ask you that earlier since you know so much.

I played college baseball and golf way back in the late 80s early 90s. Also played basketball back in the day. I was 6'2 165 lbs back then and didn't like getting hit by those 6' 220 pound LBs and lineman. :) I do work in the recruiting industry and have spent a bunch of time evaluating talent as well as coaches and what it takes to succeed at each level of sports. I'm a very old kid who's never been able to take sports out of his life.

Calloway, Jennings, Palmer, J Johnson, Tatum, R Johnson, Richmond, Chandler, JG, Tuttle, Phillip's, Kirkland, Bituli, Kongbo, Warrior, Abernathy, Ignot, Sapp, D Taylor, Byrd, both Johnson boys and both kickers. You say no talent, these 24 guys look pretty talented to me. Curious as to which of these guys you feel is not SEC talent?

How many on your list received offers from Bama, UGA, LSU, Michigan, ND, Clemson, etc.? As an analyst stated this weekend, most of UT's roster was never really considered or offered by the top programs in the nation regardless of the "Stars" and most had to do with either not having the wiggle or overall projected ceilings.

So far what we've seen is kids playing what the coaches are teaching; sometimes good, sometimes not so much . . . CJP and company need time to recruit the horses needed to compete in the SEC . . . and this roster isn't it.

Me too brother. :) I’m still a kid at heart but my body says otherwise. Use that recruiting talent to bring us some big boys. As a former QB, I loved watching my O-line take care of business. They did it with pride too.

Every single one of those guys received multiple D1 scholarship offers with many coming from the teams you listed. I'm sure it can be researched. Amazing how you added LSU, Michigan and Notre Dame as none of those 3 have accomplished anything the last 5 years, neutered dame maybe but they've got a ton of 3 star and lower level 4 stars playing. Facts are that all 24 of those kids are SEC quality, problem is that we need 60 or those guys going at it. We'll be a bunch closer next year. Talent is not an issue, depth is.
