I should have known many here couldn't have a civil honest discussion of questionable decisions of a game where the outcome was favorable.

Carry on but I damn sure how we try for a FG next time we are in the spot instead of a hail marry

Throwing the Hail Mary never really crossed my mind. I thought we were looking to set up the FG, too. I understand Bruin’s reputation doesn't give him the benefit of the doubt, but I just didn’t think that was what they would do. Maybe that was the element of surprise, but the percentages aren’t real high to succeed.

Yea maybe they were defending the short quick pass and that's why it worked.
Would love to see an X/O guy break that down

Btw I noticed the Titans blitz Logan Ryan today on the Hail Mary to end the first half and he sacked Tom Brady.
Intersting call there I thought.

Only thing he is doing is embarrassing himself.

Just your typical, insecure meathead.

He may embarrass himself but it looks like he has lots of dirt on Herman and he's gonna expose him and try to ruin his career. That's a sorry excuse for a human. He probably has the dirt on Urb too and just may expose him. Gonna get interesting.

Ok let's be honest with ourselves.

Good coaching or just got lucky in these two instances???

1) punting the ball on 4th and 3 from Kentucky's 34 yard line.

2) attempting the Hail Mary instead of running a short 5-10yard route and kicking a fg.

Imo I think punting was good coaching. It was going to be a defensive day and that was a good conservative decision.

Imo the Hail Mary was really dumb and really lucky. I thought we should have run a short route, called our last TO and kicked a FG. If we throw an incomplete pass throw the Hail Mary on the next play. 6 seconds is plenty of time for that.

6 seconds is not a lot. That’s a gamble too. I think Pruitt looked at the size of our WRs and said.. “ah what the hell”

That was one of the best executed I have ever seen. Throwing at a physical JJ along with Palmer in one spot of the end zone. DWA on the other side of the field taking one guy away from the spot and Callaway gliding down the other sideline past his man with the perfect angle to come in front of all of them all and highpoint. Of course, JG could not have thrown it any better.

I can buy that but with a TO as
Long as you trust JG to throw the ball away in time I think you get a play in fairly easily

Since when has JG thrown the ball quickly? He’s known for holding too long so the 6 seconds probably runs off and then people would moan about not getting any shot at points.

I’ll bite. It was really windy blowing out of the north, the direction we were going in both of those instances. They likely didn’t feel very confident about 50 yard field goals into that wind. Thus the punt from the 34 and not trying to get near that area with a short pass and only 6 seconds.

Were we going to run the clock out then Chandler rips off 15 yards and forced the issue? I don’t know. I don’t really care. Vols baby.

Correct and running out the clock was just fine up 10-0 and getting the ball.

I know many others never like being that conservative but we were very conservative there

There ya go Bruin. That’s a good thought.

I wasn't at the game.
How stiff was the wind?

Good post

If I had to guess 10-15 gusting to 20. But it’s hard to say how it was swirling around the stadium. The flags at the top of the stadium were active all night. Add cold temps and it significantly shortens your kicking game, which is probably why we saw a lot more rugby style punts.

Yeah I think that's pretty common. Up 2 possessions and you get the ball at the half. No need to do anything unless an opportunity presents itself.

It did, and we took advantage.

Honestly, and if have to go back and watch it again, but I think we had Callaway and Jennings on the right side, and probably a shorter rite like route on the left to get out of bounds and set up a FG.

Maybe the short route guy taken away... And the way Callaway ran his route was perfect... He slowed down and let the defense get behind him, and he got in front and under the ball.

JG got flushed and had to do something... Threw a great ball....TD.

Everyone's a genius lol

Thanks. Good discussion

I know we have had success with Hail Marys but I'll take a 47yard and in FG attemp there every time.

I thought he was very conservative and should have been. Without popping the run we weren't going to be aggressive and I liked that
Agreed. We called the time out on defense to have the opportunity.

Field position when we got the ball back dictated what happened next.

We got Chandler's run, and it worked out.

But I liked the way we managed that whole situation.
