So do we go in expecting 10-2 or what?
Only if you are wanting to set yourself up for disappointment. I assume your 2 losses would be UGA and Bama. From what you’ve seen this year do you think we can run the table with home games against BYU, SC, Miss St and road games at UF, KY, and MO? No way. I think 7-5 is about right but we could get up to 8, maybe even 9 with some luck and extremely good development. We shall see!

Mississippi State, Georgia, and Kentucky all have a bye week before playing us.

I’m hoping Pruitt is all that Fulmer hoped he would be and is able to prove himself a great coach in year 2.

If all he can recruit and develop this team into is 7 wins I’m not sure he’ll even be here in 4 years.

8 or 9 wins and he’ll be safe I’m sure though.

True. I think it’ll be tough to get to 8 in year 2 but by year 3 we should be there or higher. In theory.

Mmmmm, frosty cupcakes
Damnit get rid of the cupcake games and play meaningful games. 4 ranked OOC games plus our SEC schedule. Cupcake games should determine if you make the CFP. They are just that...MEANINGLESS!!!! Heck let’s go with a 9 game conference schedule. It’s gonna happen one day. Question is when??

They do but playing Duke and 3 nobodies? Now the criticism last year was unfair. FSU was supposed to be good and was when scheduled and Colorado St and Fresno St weren’t nobodies. One Mercer does not a bad schedule make. But next year’s OOC for Bama is weak for any top 25 team.

You may be right but in the end does it matter? Do you think Bama fans care that Bama schedules like they do? Highly doubt it. This whole notion that we are Tennessee and should always play a tough schedule is ridiculous.

You might want to wait to see how we end up this year before you start proclaiming that.

But I'll say if we don't go bowling next year....yikes.
I'm hoping for a bowl by then. No way I'm calling 8,9, or 10 wins. We still don't have the talent of teams like KY right now, and even with a good class they'll be freshman. If we don't win at least 6, we're in trouble.

It doesn’t matter for us right now but Bama will care if the time ever comes that it costs them a playoff spot. Of course if they run the table it won’t matter but have a bad schedule and lose a game and you never know what may happen. It almost happened to them last year and that was a better schedule than what Bama has next year, at least out of conference.

The only way to do what you suggest is to form a separate league of Power 5 schools and have them play only each other during the year. Of course that league would have to be half or smaller than the current 60 or so Power 5 if every one plays only ranked OOC teams as you demand. You'd also have to allow relegation of teams deemed less than Power 5 at season's end along with promotion of a few teams deemed worthy to play in this super league. None of this will happen because traditional top teams like Nebraska, FSU, USC, Miami, TENNESSEE, etc wouldn't even qualify for the top league right now. That would result in a tremendous loss of revenue for these traditional powerhouses that have been struggling. Anyone want to offer an argument as to why the Vols should qualify for this top 30 league? There's at least 12 teams in the SEC alone who have fared better as of late than TN. Dont forget that non Power 5 schools get huge checks for getting plastered by the ilk of Alabama and OSU. They would be very unhappy to lose those pay days.

The test comes
SEPT. 21: AT FLORIDA (GAINESVILLE)

OCT. 5: VS. GEORGIA (KNOXVILLE)

OCT. 12: VS. MISSISSIPPI STATE (KNOXVILLE)

OCT. 19: AT ALABAMA (TUSCALOOSA)

OCT. 26: VS. SOUTH CAROLINA (KNOXVILLE)
Yes, the Vols get a bye between UF and UGA. May they upset the Dawgs.

Georgia's got a bye too though.

8 and 4 to 10 and 2 if we can fix the lines. The DL looks to be incredibly weak next season unless some of the current freshmen develop quite a bit over the summer and the guys we have recruited one or two can play immediately.
