2018 Midterm Election Thread

Keep telling yourself that. You're living in a fantasy world, Luther.
You can't be serious. I give you well deserved credit on being more clear thinking than most on here but comments like those are straining your credibility.....and you know it.

Keep telling yourself that. You're living in a fantasy world, Luther.
I can think of Richard Nixon, who might approach Trump in terms of persistent lying... Certainly, Reagan (Iran-Contra), Bush 1 (Read my lips, no new taxes), Clinton (I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky), Bush 2 (there are WMD's in Iraq) and Obama (you can keep your plan) all told lies at various times but in terms of lie after lie, day after day... Trump is in a class by himself.

And I remember you acknowledging in the past, that Trump does lie quite a bit. Don't get tribal now.

Were you this pissed at Obama when he lied about the ACA? How about at Bill when he lied about extra-marital affairs? Seems like their supporters stuck with them through their lies. Trump isn't that different from past Presidents other than he's inspired incredible outrage from the left.

Clinton lied and it got him impeached. I'm not sure I believe that Obama's statement about keeping your doctor was meant to deceive in that, if your doctor took ACA payments then you wouldn't change. Same as if your employer switches HMOs. It doesn't have the same depth of dishonesty to it that Trump engages in, intentionally, over and over and over again.

The Dems getting subpoena power will be the start of really exposing his fraud.

The data that the right hates most.....the rate of increase is ALWAYS highest during Republican administrations.

They don't hate it. They don't care.

They pretend to. They pretend to be the party of fiscal responsibility. But it's just to justify the shell game of robbing the middle class to pay off the 1 percent.

IMO it's not going to deter both parties from squashing the third party, in this political environment.

I’m not necessarily talking about the current one. Just in the coming decades. There is an unprecedented swath of people absolutely disgusted with the current state of our political system, and rightly so. Im not sure it will be able to go on much longer in its current state of bitter divisiveness, and I have growing doubts that the two parties are capable of mending tensions on their own.

It’s totally speculative on my part, but I do believe the possibility of a legit grassroots movement for another party could manifest in the not-so-distant future.

I’d love to get a budget that shrinks the government and starts to get a handle on the out of control fed spending.

I take it you’re now all for that? I’m guessing you’d be squealing like a stuck pig. And are just grandstanding here for show.

Again JMO, unless Citizens United is overturned, there will be too much money thrown at opposition PAC's to keep one from rising up, unless the citizens actually united. I don't see anything stopping the 2-party monster.

No doubt. Trump does lie quite often. I believe all politicians, regardless of party, do. I believe you, luther, and LG have it in your head that Trump tells more lies simply because of the R next to his name. As I've said before, I get not liking him. He's not a likable guy. But let's not warp reality and ignore that plenty of politicians from the past have been caught in lies but their partisans have been quickly forgiving.

Let me ask you this, how many of Trump's lies have actually done harm to our country or its populace? You all scream "he's un-Presidential!", but what has he done to harm the country? And don't bring the deficit projection argument LG has switched to that supposes Trump gets a second term and never addresses it. Give me something in the now.

Across the board mandatory percentage cuts equal to half of the percentage cut to the military.

I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to cuts to the military.

However, I’d lean towards cutting spending (or cutting altogether) for programs that aren’t related to the specific functions of the fed as laid out by our founding documents.

The greatest harm in my opinion is how he has intentionally tried to delegitimize the press and factual truth. He has made the country a much more ignorant place in which to live.

If you are honest you know Trump lies way more then most.

Luth, the press has done that to themselves. They really have no one to blame. If they could report the news and stop trying to shape public opinion, that would be a good start in healing their self inflicted wounds.

But rest assured, tomorrow they will double down.

The press has delegitimized itself by taking more and more of a political slant. Yet something else the left has tried to lay at Trump's feet without acknowledging that fact. That's something he's not completely lying about.

I agree we have created 2 political conglomerates. I suppose it’s just the idealist in me hoping Americans are one day smart enough to give themselves some actual options.

I believe Trump tells bigger whoppers that are easily recognized, but I don't believe he lies more than most. Tell me, who's more dangerous, the person who you can tell is lying, or the one you can't? Trump is a boastful braggart who mostly lies to appease his ego. Most politicians are much better liars, so it's harder to see the truth.

I don't buy that line. There are just so many more sources than there used to be and all of them are looking for a share of the audience. That in no way eliminates the sources that report and provide factual truth. Trump does everything within his power to steer people away from those sources of factual truth (whatever they may be) and create a world were factual truth is whatever anyone wishes make it. Or in other words, Trump promotes the notion that there is no factual truth.

When he lies dozens of times every day and when he and his supporters celebrate his dishonesty, cheer it, and reward it, yes, it pizzes me off.

He must be doing something right your boy Barry keeps trying to take credit for all his accomplishments. Kinda ironic since he blamed Bush for all of his failures for 8 years. Can the failure that is Obama own anything he has actually done?

Did the multiple erroneous reporting on the TrumPutin nonsense help or hurt the media’s credibility?

Did they help or hurt their credibility when multiple big outlets ran headlines that Trump called immigrants ‘animals’?

Does Jim Acosta ever have a real question to ask or does he open his suck just to grandstand? He cannot be taken seriously.

I could go on and on how they twist his words to fit their agenda.

Let’s go back to Romney. Do you think they helped or hurt their credibility with the stories they ran about Mitt Romney and his women issues? His treatment of animals?

These are small examples of what they have been perpetuating for years. Each mistatememt, each twist in a headline, each silent omission of context...they all add up. They’ve lost credibility.

Trump calls them what they are: Fake News.

Alright fellas...I have to get to bed now. Need to get up super early tomorrow.

Going to try to hit four polling places in the morning and three after work. It’s going to be a long day.
