Jones quit the minute he had the program on the verge to take off. After Tampa, he had a top 10 team returning but chose to turn it into a players driven team. The program then collapsed and he was done.

Tennessee football was too big for Jones but he did the math, had $200k guaranteed for 48 months. Decided he’d trade that instead of driving a program toward championships.

How long has Stoops been coaching? Where does he have UK after what 6 years? Top 10 with a chance to win the East. But I forgot we are Tennessee. We shouldnt have to wait for coaching stability or anything. Thats not important at all.

So after year 3, we should just fire Pruitt if he isnt winning at a high level. Then we can have yet another HC, DC, OC and S&C coach. That has really worked out for us huh?

The mere fact he got there is a huge testament. We are talking about Kentucky football.

So do you think if Pruitt isnt winning at a high level in year 3, that firing him, getting an entire new staff, is the answer? If so, why? How has that worked for us since Fulmer?

Yep nothing else is really gonna work at this point. Big name coaches don’t want to come here just give Pruitt the time

There are some variables to take into consideration, we should be in contention for the east in his 3rd season but injuries could affect that. What’s his recruiting classes look like and how well have they progressed? Are we competitive with Alabama?

All things considered, we’ll absolutely know what we have after season 3 and a decision will have to be made because he will be wanting an extension.

This...1000%. Also, I know some folks are either up or down w/ JG, but no one can argue that his improvement over last year has been huge. You give the guy time and he can hit any pass. He's got two more years, and if we're upgrading the line next year, either with existing or new players, I think he can develop into a top 2-3 QB in SEC. As we've seen with Vandy, MSt, Miz, Aub (in past), and even UT (Dobbs)...there's a real value to having an experienced and high level QB...it's a difference maker...and maybe why Chryst hasn't gotten more playing time this year, wanting for JG to get as much experience under his belt as possible to ready us to launch us into better 2019.

If Fulmer don’t give him at minimum 4 years to get things really going then Phil ought to be canned as AD. All this hiring and firing every 3-4 years needs to STOP!!! This program will never rise again should Pruitt fail to achieve his goals and get ousted in 3 years...

I could be wrong but think folks are already starting to scheme up Kentucky last three games were loss to TaM, 14-7 win vs Vandy, and miracle win vs Miz ...plus 13 of their 22 starters are seniors. They better get it while they can this year.

False. The administration has ruined UT football. Not the fans. One of the key elements that makes UT a place where you could win a national championship is the passionate/rabid fanbase. There's this false narrative perpetuated by the media that UT fans are unrealistic. and a deterrent to attracting top level coaching talent. Bottom line is it is in the SEC and a top 10 all time winning program, with deep pockets, tons of resources, and while not having a huge home state recruiting base is close proximity to Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta etc, a nice footprint. Fans demand excellence because we understand our history and our potential. Weak leadership has killed our program, not the fans that show up week after week to watch us lose to the likes of South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Mizzou and your football program. Why would anyone have wanted to take the job after that joke of a coaching search? The incompetence stemming from all the way at the top was unparalleled.

KY is a senior laden football team having a fair tale season. It took years to get to this point, so sit back and enjoy by all means, but I doubt this level of success will last. In fact I suspect it may all come crashing down this weekend, then yall come to Neyland the following week....And we'll see you then. Don't think UT fans will be afraid of UK even sitting on a record of 7-2

Good points and I get it. But I really cannot put being competitive with Alabama a criteria for a coach at UT.

If you hire the right coach, you will know well sooner than 5 years. Most good coaches show vast improvement from year 1 to 2. It is not at all unreasonable to expect 9 to 10 wins in year 3. Heck, looking at the season right now 8 of our 12 games have been or will be winnable. UF might could enter that mix if we dont turn the ball over 15 times or whatever it was, not saying we win, but we dont get blown off the field.

All that to say when you hire Trumpet Blower and Derek Dookey, you know pretty quick what you got. Dookey was lazy and a quitter, Trumpet blower was a used car salesman who could sell, but couldnt back his product, he could not develop or coach.

It still may be too early to tell on Pruitt, but I like what I've seen so far. Certain players are getting better, others are not, but its them not buying in IMO. We will weed those out. This guy is a football coach, and I feel much better about our future than I ever did with the 2 previous morons running the show. I think we will see a jump in the win column next year, the schedule sets up nicely for it

Sorry but this thinkng is not true for every single program because not every situation is the same. Look at Stoops. Would absolutely ANY UK fan imagined that he would have them in a position to win the East and be in the top 10 after year 3? Highly doubtful. The old thinking that app,ies to guys like Saban or Malzahan is antiquated. The rebuild job ahead of Pruitt is monumental. The eye test should tell you that.

So say in year 2 he only wins 7? Does that really tell us anything? Not really.

If this season doesn’t teach my fellow Vol fans patience then they will never find it. Putting an expiration date on his tenure before it gets started is setting you up for another coaching search and more expiration dates. The truth is it’s 2018 and the SEC isn’t what it was when UT was dominant. It can swing back for us but the truth is nobody knows when that’s gonna happen. Either stick it out or find other hobbies.

I dont speak for other programs, because I only care about ours. And we are not UK, so dont even try to act like there is a comparison in football there. I'm sure UK fans are thrilled that many of them are getting to see something they've never seen in their lifetime, a team that has a shot, even if it's a slim one, to win the east in football. They will probably drop to 6-6 next year.

You will see a big a difference in improvement next year if Pruitt is a good coach. I've already seen it working. We are not digressing like we did under Trumpet Blower and Derek Dookey. It was clear very early that neither of those guys were gonna make it.

We can win 8 or 9 next year. Expect it.

Lets be realistic. Vols fans will be clamoring for Gruden after he gets fired from Oakland/Vegas soooooooooon.

Dooley only got 3 because he didn’t have a winning season in 3 years.

Butch got 5 because year 3 and 4 he managed 9 wins. Had he not bottomed out and managed 7ish wins in year 5 he’d still be here today.

I don’t think Fulmer will be quick to pull the trigger as long as there is improvement from year to year, and the occasional ‘down year’ isn’t a complete slide back down the barrel (like Butch), I think Pruitt hangs on for longer than the last 2 that were fired.

I also think Fulmer will give Pruitt every resource possible to succeed the same way Dickey did for him as a young HC. That is the difference having a football guy in charge of the AD should make to the program.

It’s something neither Dooley or Butch were given. I’m not saying they would have won more had Hamilton and Hart been better but I don’t think they helped when came time to hire new assistants which was arguably the downfall of both.
