Pruitt about to land an epic recruiting class...

1. i don't think Epic is how i would describe the whole class. it could be an epic OL class though. and there are some really good players like Keyton, Harris, Mcollough...that could be difference makers very early on. we'll see how some flip candidates go the rest of the way.....can see it finishing around the top 10.
2. improvement issue....raise your hand if you thought the stats and/or record of this year's team was going to be THAT much better than last year? 2 maybe 3 games better at best, before the season started?
3. improvement...eye test...as was said many many times in the pre season, this team might improve a lot, but you'd never know it by looking at the record....the schedule was/is hard. i think that's been proven true to this point. i think if you look at some individual improvments some players have made, guys like PHillips, Alexis Johnson, Drew Richmond etc....you'll start to find some guys that really have gotten a lot better since last year. and you see two freshmen CB's that are still raw, but have gotten better as well. you see WR's making more plays this year than they did last year.
4. results: we've won 1 game we weren't supposed to. we almost won another game we weren't supposed to. we've beaten everyone we've supposed to have beaten, and we've lost to everyone else we've been predicted to lose to. it's par for the course so far, and barring a loss to UNCC, the season will probably wind up in a range of w/l's that was predicted by a ton of people in the pre season (anywhere from 5-7 wins)

there's a chance we could sign 6 OL. 2 of which would be the #1 and #2 OT's in the country, both 5* recruits. plus 4* guard and potentially another 4* guard that could be a flip. and 2 3*'s that most think have very high celings.
the OL potential in this class is high. if nothing else, that would be a huge way to start off the pruitt era in recruiting.

Silly me, I actually clicked on this thread thinking that there was going to be some actual information or news in it about actual recruits. When will I ever learn?
You've been around long enough to know better, Gandalf.

We need three classes like this in consecutive years. Wide outs, tailback maybe even a QB can come from the Juco route or transfers. O Lineman are not usually sitting in Juco or looking to transfer, those that are are the exception.

Exactly. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out we’re slow on defense and can’t tackle.

Probably why Pruitt keeps mentioning over & over again that he wants bigger & faster players on both sides of the ball.

I’ve never said that we are not slow, never criticized CJP for that since it’s something he can’t fix this season. But he could teach them how to tackle and correct the other mental mistakes.

we got two juco ol this year. Jamir Johnson was a juco.

but i digress. this class probably won't have enough star power to get it way up in the top 10. but this class, especially if we do get at least 5 of the 6 OL mentioned, will have some very nice pieces. really high on the two safeties we've got committed. Ramel Keyton is a WR that i think is another Joey Kent type of guy. and there's some potential flip candidates they're really working on that could be be really impactful. Eric Gray is a speed guy at RB committed to Michigan currently, but he's a big target they're working.

and i don't htink they're done trying to flip a couple guys in the front 7 either.

lot left to be done on the cruitin' trail. far from done. and as always, it's fluid..........things can, and will, change.

So your rec league and middle school playbooks and programs are as intense as a D1 college football playbook and program?

Tackling, alignment and snap count are teachable regardless of what level of football your playing.

You're wrong. CBJ only recruited amputees and then fed them stupid pills while he was here. No one can fix that.

Are you 12? What’s with the coach worship?

I’ve coached enough at the rec and middle school level to know that it doesn’t take years to fix reoccurring mental mistakes.
Lol you have coached at the Rec and middle school levels eh ? Well wow we should all bow down to your obvious intellect. What was I thinking that one of the best DC in the country w multiple NCs at the collegiate level along w HS championships might know a bit more than yourself

Apologies

I could substitute “Kiffen” or “Dooley” or “Butch” for Pruitt and it would describe the program for the past decade

Always the dog chasing its tail.

Until we find a coach that can develop players on the field, we are going to continue to be talking about next year.

I know this has been addressed but if you throw out a statement such as this then please explain it.

What exactly does this mean??? What's the point? early diagnose? opinion? Crying in your Soup? Drinking too much???

Another Drive by Shooting???? Care to take a BAT?

Why won't all the negative posters on here just stop for a little while and give Pruitt a chance? This team is progressing under his coaching staff, they haven't quit at all, and so what if he shows some emotion occasionally? He is a coach who has never known losing and doesn't like it when it happens. One other thing to take into consideration before posting the negativity; do you reckon the recruits Pruitt offers may check out this fan site? I guarantee they do and may think they don't want to sign here to have all the bashing going on about them, their teammates, their coach. Let's give it a break and stop all the negativity.

Coaching football is coaching football, different levels means bigger faster players with more experience so you can install more complicated schemes. But in the end it all comes down to fundamentals and if you can't coach fundamentals you are not a good football coach. It's easy to win when you have the biggest, fastest and best players.

CJP may very well turn out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and I'm pulling for him but so far he simply has not impressed me much.

He’s basically saying this is a deja vu type thread. Each one of those coaches had the same thing said during most years, it rarely pans out that way.

I know this is Captain Obvious material but he’s gotta beat Mullin and Kirby on the recruiting trail on a frequent basis or its gonna be hard to surpass them at the top of the SEC East

Recruiting is about "fit". Pruitt signed some guys that are freshman now, that are really good fits for what he does.
A Taylor
B Thompson

And we have some guys not recruited by him, who are trying to fit. But not enough.
Chandler
Palmer
JG *
Richmond
R Johnson
Tuttle
Phillips

Personality makeup is huge when building your team.
And we don't have a lot of "football players."

To many guys out there are just not in the mindset to play good football.

I told some of ya'll a few months ago in other strings we had folks, that just cannot believe anybody gets a million dollars a year to coach UT football much less more than that. They knew Billy Bob from the feed store who coached the peewees at the Rec center that won the county championship 4 years in a row who would do it for $50K per year. For those that thought it was comical and surreal, nay nay I say, just read through this thread, he's here, and he gets likes.

I don't know, but if two or three just don't give a chit, it doesn't just effect those two or three. Replace those two or three? Do it. Do it. Lol

People like me haven't decided Pruitt is our answer or not, but I trust him enough that he's thought about teaching these guys tackling, alignment and snap count and he knows how to teach them. I mean, do you and hog, and others really think he is that bad?

I would say you are a glass half empty type fan but that wouldn't do justice for such a malcontent.
