Even in a loss Miles and Leach are fun to watch.Guys, we deserved to lose last night. Not we, the fans. We deserve medals. We have stuck by the Vols year after year after year while Florida, UGA, Alabama, etc have gone out and made big hires. But South Carolina deserved to beat Tennessee last night. Why? Because their administration is dedicated to winning (or at least trying to win). South Carolina's last 3 hires have been Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, and Will Muschamp. Those 3 coaches have a combined record of 524-256. Now, keep in mind, a lot of those losses came while they were coaching @ SC. Their records are much better if you subtract their early seasons @ SC.
On the contrary, our last 3 hires have a combined record of 119-100. Do you see the issue here? South Carolina.....SOUTH CAROLINA have gone out and hired EXPERIENCED coaches, while we keep hiring Google search coaches. We're never going to compete like this. Ever. Tennessee is not a place to "cut your teeth". When you hire guys that are barely over the .500 mark, how do you expect much more than 6-6?
They're gambling. They're not investing. And they're doing it with our money. Pruitt may end up being a great coach, but if that does happen, it was luck.
Anyone else see Mike Leach (129-82) beat Stanford last night? Gundy (119-56) and Oklahoma State beat Texas? Would a Les Miles (141-55) Tennessee have lost last night? What could have been...
Absolutely. We know what Les is.....there’s a reason why LSU tried running him out of town for 3 years until they finally got him. He had a great career down there, but he’d gotten incredibly stubborn and it looked like the game had passed him by.Are you suggesting that hiring an unknown such as Jeremy Pruitt is a better move than hiring Les Miles? Is that what you're saying?
And for all the folks saying "we went 4-8 last year, what do you expect"....Florida went 4-7 last year, and are currently sitting 6-2 and in the Top 10 (probably Top 15 after the GA loss). So...there's that.

Pruitt on the other hand is an up and comer with a fantastic pedigree. He’s doing some good things here and I personally love his approach. Only time will tell, but he definitely deserves the time. We’ll know if he’s the guy by the end of next season imo.
That train left the station with the Jones hire. Top coaches don't want to work for these people, its that simple. This administration doesn't care what happens as long as they get the SEC network and SEC bowl split. They are content with where they are.
I notice you conveniently left Chip Kelly off your list of coaches who would have won last nite. Usually when people cherry pick stats it is because their arguement is weak and this thread is no different.
Mike Leach has his players and his O would SUCK with JG at qb as would Gundy's. You are comparing coaches who have been in their programs for years to one who has yet to reach his 1st anniversary.....but dont let facts stand in your way of being negative.
I’d love to get the Wrights and Pappoes of the world but it doesn’t take guys like that to be competitive. We just need smart, competitive guys with bodies that fit the 3-4.JP and staff are recruiting Ferraris.......they just ain't coming to Knoxville.
I thought you were gonna say we deserved to lose because we made more mistakes, had too many penalties and because our defense was bloody awful. If you’d said those things I’d agree 100%.Guys, we deserved to lose last night. Not we, the fans. We deserve medals. Florida has a much better roster than we do....surely the head to head matchup back in September proved that. They lined up and bitch slapped us for 4 quarters and they’ve played well all season after the Ky loss early. Apples and orange. And throw in the very real mental/psychological element that plagues our games with Florida. I think Mullen is a very good coach, but seriously doubt we’d be anything other than 3-5 right now if he were our coach rather than Jeremy. My issue is not whether he can or can't, it's that I don't feel the University has put us in the best position to succeed. JP may end up being a great coach, but we may have to wait a while. And I don't like that, considering Florida doesn't seem like they're having to wait at all.
All 3 of those coaches have better talent than our coach when he was hired. BIG DIFFERENCEGuys, we deserved to lose last night. Not we, the fans. We deserve medals. I’m not calling anyone an idiot, but I think it was a hell of a coaching job to keep it close. We were dominated at the LOS and had somehow had a chance to win in the 4th. On the road. At night. It would’ve been a very impressive win. Hate that we came up short. But are we idiots for thinking that last night's game was not only winnable but we got out-coached in the process of losing it?
I don't think so.
I agree, but our linebackers are awful. Nowhere to be found last night, couldn’t get off anybody’s blocks. They’ll have to get much better as well....or maybe Banks and Peterson can come in and play. Either way, everybody in the front 7 has to get much, much better.I’d love to get the Wrights and Pappoes of the world but it doesn’t take guys like that to be competitive. We just need smart, competitive guys with bodies that fit the 3-4.
Our biggest problem is how weak we are up the middle. Tuttle is better suited for the 4-3, but Elijah Simmons and Savion Williams are on their way. If we get some guys who can move the LOS our backers will look much better.
Not for the folks with even a little bit of football sense. They already know it was a good hire. For those that don't see a ton of improvement by a team headed in the right direction, well, they will never see it! A first year coach with subpar talent nearly pulled off the 2nd upset of an SEC team with 3 still left to play. That’s yet to be determined
Take away Spurrier's record and Florida, then look at that record.Guys, we deserved to lose last night. Not we, the fans. We deserve medals. Pruitt is Fulmer's a 5* Head Coach recruit. Fans are expecting him to contribute a bit too much in his freshman year.
Cuz Fulmer won 150 games.
