Guys, we deserved to lose last night. Not we, the fans. We deserve medals. We have stuck by the Vols year after year after year while Florida, UGA, Alabama, etc have gone out and made big hires. But South Carolina deserved to beat Tennessee last night. Why? Because their administration is dedicated to winning (or at least trying to win). South Carolina's last 3 hires have been Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, and Will Muschamp. Those 3 coaches have a combined record of 524-256. Now, keep in mind, a lot of those losses came while they were coaching @ SC. Their records are much better if you subtract their early seasons @ SC.

On the contrary, our last 3 hires have a combined record of 119-100. Do you see the issue here? South Carolina.....SOUTH CAROLINA have gone out and hired EXPERIENCED coaches, while we keep hiring Google search coaches. We're never going to compete like this. Ever. Tennessee is not a place to "cut your teeth". When you hire guys that are barely over the .500 mark, how do you expect much more than 6-6?

They're gambling. They're not investing. And they're doing it with our money. Pruitt may end up being a great coach, but if that does happen, it was luck.

Anyone else see Mike Leach (129-82) beat Stanford last night? Gundy (119-56) and Oklahoma State beat Texas? Would a Les Miles (141-55) Tennessee have lost last night? What could have been...

It grinds my ass to lose to SC, especially since we really just beat ourselves with more undisciplined football.

But, c’mon man...we need to give the man a chance to show us what he’s got. There’s no such thing as a sure thing in a hire.

Plus you’re going to get the Grudenites stirred up again!!! Please don’t.

Maybe we did. But do you KNOW we did? Is there any PROOF that we did?
Is there any proof that we didn’t? If not why make this post? We are better at several positions and we beat a ranked team in the road despite being grossly overmatched. Beating South Carolina would’ve been an upset. It’s obvious to everyone I’ve talked to that we are getting better. Your opinion is an outlier.

My opinion is that we're 3-5, and probably going to finish 4-8 again. Nothing else other than that really matters, does it?

I just saw where you suggested we should’ve hired Les Miles. Lol I’m done. Dudes a troll. Got me good

I think les would have been a great hire. Think of it as a Rick Barnes for the football program.

He sure as hell would have been better than the past two coaches and most of the candidates the admin went after.

Are you suggesting that hiring an unknown such as Jeremy Pruitt is a better move than hiring Les Miles? Is that what you're saying?
Miles was one of the ones that I wanted. Not sure why Fulmer nor Currie ever considered him. He is a proven Coach who is a winner and has won a National Championship. And I believe that we would have been able to hire him cheap, too.

Les is a known commodity alright... an above average coach on the backend of his career whose best days are behind him. I'd rather gamble personally. Now, I wish we would've gotten someone proven this time around like Mullen, since several were available, but we all know how that story went. Given the position Phil was put in, he made the best choice he could.

I’m pretty happy we don’t have to listen to Mullen after each game.

He would have been better than Dooley, Butch, or Schiano but there’s a reason why none of them are currently a head coach.

Fulmer took a shot with someone that has greater upside and I’ve seen enough to believe it was a very, very good move. He’s doing very well with what he’s got IMO. Once Pruitt fills the defense with more of his guys like Taylor, Thompson, Banks and Flowers every Vol fan will be happy with what we see on Saturdays. But you simply can’t win with a DL that gets pushed back as bad as ours does.

Favor, can you post your resume? I didn't catch what schools you held a HC position.

If you can’t see that we made a good hire you’re blind.

Okay color me blind.

Now tell me specifics that make CJP a good hire. And the "we are getting better each week" isn't a specific it's just a cover. Is it the discipline shown by the team? The tremendous comebacks they've shown? How much better they are playing now versus the beginning of the year?
