The Defense Lost The Game

• Too many missed tackles
• DBs continuously getting burned
• LBs missing assignments

Most of our defense looked flat footed that’s afraid to make contact with opposing players.

Need a complete roster change and bring in some SEC Caliber players to replace the Big East leftovers.

Way too damn slow on defense.

Sad and we have a defensive coach.

Losing Kongbo and replacing him with Ignont is a bigger deal than people want to admit.

There are moral victories for fans, not players/coaches and that SC team has more players than we do. They aren't a bad team.

No, there are no moral victories. Not for fans, not for anyone. There are losses. Some understandable like Alabama, some not so much, like this one.

Maybe I missed it, but it seems our DL never ran any stunts, never tried any spin or swim moves, and simply bull rushed the entire game. Makes for an easy night for the opposing OL. When they weren't running it down our throat because all they had to do was simply line up against us, Bentley had all day to throw. Very disappointing performance.

Defense was bad, lack of discipline was even worse. Stupid penalties on Jennings and Callaway were game changers. Marcus Tatum procedure penalties were killers. Guarantano holding the ball too long was same old same old
The Callaway penalty was a turning point. The D was unable to get a stop and TN needed to stay a score ahead. His chicken-fighting took away a likely TD and win; I thought it was the ballgame as soon as it occurred.

Yes, the defense was porous and cost us the game tonight.

But the offense choked away chances, too.

Our offense played well enough to win. The defense just limited their number of possessions by allowing SC to stay on the field and seemingly score at will.

I agree. But at the end of the day, the offense had the ball at the 50 with a chance to win or tie.

This loss was mainly on the defense. But, the offense choked, too.

I agree with your point, but had our defense gotten SC off the field two or three times in the 2nd half we may have not needed to convert a 4th and 10 to have a chance to win.

Re: Stunts. On at least two plays CJP called the perfect blitz and the player took the wrong angle and left the play wide open.

Plus we didn't even get 50/50 on the breaks- 1.fumble at the goal line 2. WR still juggling the ball as he went out of bounds. Ruled TD 3. 50/50 balls 4. stupid penalties time after time.

One good thing though, we've overall improved enough that we fans are beginning to expect this team to win. First time in a while that I've been frustrated and angry after a game. Previously mostly resigned.

Yep, bad week for the D. We needed the offense to bail us out and they almost did. I'll take the moral victory. On the road against a better team, our D didn't play well, we committed a lot of penalties and we almost pulled that out.

I totally missed any moral victory. Our defense was 100% awful. S.C. only had 8 third downs the entire game. 8!!!! And they were the 82nd ranked rushing offense in the nation. And they ran it down our throats.

There was zero moral victory here. Zero, nada, nil, nyet. And to even remotely suggest anything similar to a “moral victory” in the same sentence as South Carolina is ludicrous.

What is next? A moral victory vs. Vandy??? Good grief. We fell apart. No moral victory...a frigging collapse is more accurate.

The defensive specialist we hired certainly didnt look like one tonight. Regression since Auburn. Unfortunate.
Meh. The opposing QB today didn’t make many bad decisions and Auburn’s OL had been struggling all year.

If we don’t force turnovers or get sacks to force 3rd & long we kinda suck. Unfortunately it takes a corner blitz for our defense to get pressure. Stidham couldnt handle it. Brantley could.

Did you guys notice how small our OL looked? Even my wife said they looked small and slow. Our best DBs are Taylor and Thompson and its not even close. Think about that, 2 true FR are the best DBs. Lol. We have little depth on both lines. Vast majority of both lines are undersized and un athletic. Marked signs of the severe lack of strength and conditioning since 2015.

Having said all that, Pruitt and the coaches did a poor job tonight. Didnt seem like there were any adjustments made. Unfortunately, its part of the learning process for new coaches. But these players still cannot do simple things ypu learn in Pop Warner football like tackle. Its sad that we have upperclassmen who still cannot properly execute the basics of football. I would be willing to bet hardly anyone on our coaching staff is used to having players this bad.

I don’t disagree. My point is that both units had a chance to win the game...and both choked
