Ty should have been moved over to the left side for that reason. Bama actually did a poor job of disguising it with the safety lined up directly over the corner. It looked like JG bit on the LB bluffing on the right side and it left you with Ty blocking a DE after the RG turned him loose and 300+lb. LG trying to get in front of a corner. It was doomed to fail.
But like you said neihaus didn't block anyone. Pretty sure Ryan Johnson didn’t either. JG was doomed even if he moved Chandler to the left to take on Smith. Of course he should have recognized it, but the Oline didn’t help either

I hope JG starts since he will be here for two more years and clearly needs more practice recognizing blitzes. Plus he’s the only QB on the roster with a road win against a ranked SEC power... a game in which he was named the offensive player of the week. And this happened two short weeks ago.
He can practice vs a different team, Muschamp is one of the best to do it. We need a bowl game and every game matters. Scars secondary is much better than Auburn’s

IIRC Johnson is the one that turned the DE loose to JG's right (which was the way he set up to throw) He would have been in JG's eyeline similar to the LB had he blitzed. The play was doomed but the difference is you probably don't give up a blindside sack that gives Bama the ball on your 3.

You tried to tell us when he was just a commitment. I am glad that he is living up to his hype. One of my favorite players too.
Man it didn’t take a trained eye to see how fierce a competitor he was in HS.

I have told this story before but I want to tell it again.

Blackman was to play Independence. Team was down because huge scandal had several players suspended for something VERY STUPID (thank God Jr not involved with it). Independence was killing Blackman. They couldn’t stop the slant. That WR who’s name escapes me (think he signed with Michigan) had a field day. The 4th quarter was about to start and Blackman is down 42-14. JJ starts on one end of Blackman sideline and walks up to every single player. He’s in their face and saying they are going to win. I literally said to my wife “I like his optimism but it’s not translating to the field”. Blackman drives down the field scores. He’s more vocal coming off the field. The defense gets a stop. Blackman scores. Turnover. Blackman scores. 3 and out Blackman scores with less than a minute to play. They go for two and get it. They won 43-42.

That kid would not allow them to lose this game. Down 42-14 in the 4th quarter and he’s in every player’s face telling them the team needs them.

Neihaus did. And I definitely agree with you, i just think the Oline is partly to blame and I’m just not sure how much different the outcome is if he did recognize it

Muschamp is going to blitz quite a bit this weekend. He has confidence in his CBs with man coverage on our receivers.

Need to come out with a plan with a good mix of max protect on the left side with RB help, screens, rollouts to the Right side, quick pass slants, and a draw here and there with the occasional 50/50 long pass to Jennings.

Use the quick pass to set up the run with Chandler and get him in space.

Can someone answer a recruiting questions, didn't want to start a whole new thread for just a simple question.
I looked on the GoVols247 recruiting page of players who are top priority and those who are listed as high choice. I saw that there was 1 maybe 2 football players who had a "high" level of interest in coming to play here for football. QUESTION: Why do I see articles that list like 8-10 top targets that Tennessee is close to getting or players who might sign with us? Am I missing something or the GoVols247 is just what one person is putting out there for information only.

We have losses against the following teams (current rank and record):

1. Alabama (8-0)
7. Georgia (6-1)
9. Florida (6-1)
13. West VA (5-1)

There's not a 'Bad' loss in that group. The only truly beatable team for us so far was a huge win -- Auburn.

The second half of the season will define the 2018 Vols. Every team remaining on the schedule is as beatable as Auburn. Removing an unwinnable game against Bama, this Vols team (including the coaching staff) has improved dramatically since the beginning of the season.

If they come strong with game plan and effort, there's no reason this team can't sweep the remaining teams. Will it happen? Maybe not. We'll be playing some evenly matched teams. But anyone who thinks it isn't possible is shortsighted.

I think he will play more zone. Steele kept trying to blitz and play man coverage and it didn’t work out too well for them. Our WRs are too good for one on one coverage

Florida was a bad loss because of how we played imo. And a lot of their success comes from the UT game imo. Gained a lot of confidences, not sure if they beat LSU if they lose to us

You're formulating a theory to support you're agenda. Florida's record doesn't support your argument. They are a talented, well-coached team. Period.

Possible, but think DBs for SC are much better in man coverage than Auburn. It's one of their strengths.

I wasn’t using that to support my argument, it was an add on.

Had we not turned the ball over 10000 times it’s a close game. It’s a bad loss cause we played like trash and handed them the game

All the stats don't mean anything if you can't identify a blitz.

That, and who the completions are to. We doubled our 3rd down conversion rate when we switched from Simms to Bray, even though I think Simms stats were better than Bray's.

As has been stated repeatedly, the issue with JG isn't the quality of his arm, it's strictly mental. In the Bama game, JG missed the obvious blitz and got strip sacked for an immediate Bama score, and KC handled the defense and went down the field and got a couple for us. Knowing who to throw to is just as important as being able to complete the pass.

I do agree that JG would be a monster if he had a good OL. Awesome arm. Tough kid. But unfortunately, we kinda short on OL strength.

Do you feel the need to argue with literally everything I say?
I wasnt arguing. Our coaches aren’t paid to be drill sergeants, are they? I’d much rather have someone who is calm and teaches guys instead of a guy who runs around and screams into a mic until his face turns red at practice. I don’t want someone who curses out players during practice and purposely embarrasses them in front of their teammates to the point they quit like a previous staff did, but I guess that’s just me.

If he is going to Blitz, we better hope KC is out there instead of JG... he won't be able to pick it up or see it and get mauled...

We need to be recruiting a RB with the kind of speed and power that Purdue whipped OHST with... video game, Tyreek Hill stuff... Is there one out there in this class? I am sure he is already committed somewhere, but would be interesting to see if there is someone comparable ...
