I do think they are a good team. Pretty one dimensional on offense. I think they got their first passing red zone td of the year against Vandy. If the defense plays them like Auburn we got a chance. They are a fundamentally good, solid football team...we are not, at least to this point. Why diminish them just because they have a K on their helmets. Beating them this year, with this team is going to be a chore. Acting like it isn't is dumb
I think they’re closer to Tennessee, South Carolina, Missouri and Vanderbilt than the top 15 ranking they have. Why do you need a month to see that they play well? Whether they win or lose from here on out means nothing in that conversation. Nobody is saying they are some juggernaught. They are a good, solid team that plays good fundamentally sound football. That is already obvious.
As an example, it took Dabo, another first time head coach (who inherited a better roster in a weaker conference), about 4 years to get them really going good (10 win seasons, conference title appearances, big time bowls) and then they stalled at that level for a few seasons, and then by year 7 they were really elite (perennial national title contender).
I think it's reasonable to expect Coach Pruitt to have us very good by year 4-5 (10+ win seasons, division titles, big time bowls), and if he's truly a special/elite coach like we hope, then by year 7-8 we could be where Clemson is now (perennial national title contender).
How confident is everyone against South Carolina?
I actually feel we win this game. We play better on the road.
I hinted at this in the thread this morning. I am told that Banks asked to make the move after the Georgia game but the staff decided against it. Needing more athleticism and play makers at linebacker, they decided to go ahead and make the move now and not wait till the off-season. There is hope and some belief that he can help them at linebacker this year.
Tennessee held its second practice of the week before Saturday's game against South Carolina.
Obviously, the move we teased last night during and after the chat happened: Jeremy Banks was at middle linebacker today, getting a lot of 1-on-1 attention from head coach Jeremy Pruitt. He also spent much of two open periods shadowing senior Darrin Kirkland Jr.
Banks has all the physical tools, and was learning how to step with the correct foot, strike and wrap up. One hilarious moment did happen when Banks actually had the football back in his hands. During a tackling drill, he ran straight through Dillion Bates. I mean straight through him. Bates' helmet nearly came off and he had to collect himself after the blow, where he was supposed to tackle Banks. Kevin Sherrer had to holler at Banks, "Don't run 'em over."
Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano was out there, taking all the No. 1 reps in routes on air.
Elsewhere, Jahmir Johnson was a full participant and was working with the main group at left guard. Nathan Niehaus was at right guard today.
Riley Locklear was getting some work as the back-up center.
Both injured wideouts Jordan Murphy and Josh Palmer were present, participating in routes on air. The Vols were working on more quick-game stuff today, lots of slants, digs and bubble screens.
Dominick Wood-Anderson was fully-dressed but the tight end did not participate in any of the run-blocking drill work while we were out there.
In the secondary, Shawn Shamburger (right knee) was working at safety alongside Nigel Warrior. Both freshman corners got plenty of reps, while Marquill Osborne and DJ Henderson saw increased attention, too.
On the stationary bikes: Micah Abernathy, Trevon Flowers and James Brown.
