Spot on about Richmond. I know many of us have given him a hard time, but it looks like the light is starting to flicker with him. Also, not sure if anyone has noticed, but he has been starting to show a little mean streak. I’ve seen him the past couple games stand up to some guys that were jawing, and he jawed back. He used to tuck his tail between his legs and walk away. I like to see that.

“Yes, the photo you’re talking about where Butch Jones is smoking a celebratory cigar with a player after Alabama's win over Tennessee is in poor taste. Jones was a failure as the Vols' head coach and the last thing he should be doing is bragging about a win as an “analyst” on the ‘Bama staff. I laughed out loud when I saw the photo because it made him look so petty and foolish.”

That Atlantic piece, coupled with how utterly inept our OL has looked all year, really has me wondering if Friend is the right guy for the job.
half a year or even one year isnt enough to determine OL coach quality. Look at Pittman at UGA. went from a suspect OL to dominant and went to a national title game last year. Need two years to grade Friend.

I think you and Pruitt are squarely on the same page, but JG and that OL aren't .
OL is on the same page as the QB. They block how the QB tells them to block. If they miss picking up someone because they were in the correct blocking scheme the QB gets what's coming to him for not calling the correct blocking scheme. Yes, blitz can be hidden or delayed, but with what we know JG keeps the base blocking scheme on every pass play it seems like. That's on him and a huge reason why he's never upright after every throw.

I wish there was a way to move Trey Smith to guard. Seems like a lot of those hits on JG come right up the gut.
Might be able to pick up some short yardage plays as well. Tackle cupboard is bare.

I know this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but I wouldn't be shocked if JG isn't one of the transfers to come after the season. I think he's a tough SOB but I'm not sure he's got it between the ears. I'm not saying it's likely but it wouldn't surprise me.

Does having Pruitt calling the defense help us or keep him from seeing big picture?

After watching the AU tape and him reading plays it's easy to see what a defensive savant he is. I do question if he couldn't do those blitz calls even if he wasn't over the entire defense.

Also there aren't many successful coaches that come to my mind that do it long term.

Mason does it and the defensive results are ok but it hasn't translated to wins for them.

Are other programs getting verbals during the season? It seems like forever.

I have modest expectations for this class, honestly. Top 15ish when the dust settles. We’re in a longer rebuild process once again, and my suspicion is that it may be harder for Pruitt to sell the truly elite kids on that than it was for Butch or Dooley. We’ve been down so long I think recruits (and fans, honestly) doubt whether we are truly an elite program anymore. I think that’s why Pruitt has made statements about UT being elite a week or two ago. He’s trying to sell it but when Bama rolls through and beats you by 5 TDs every time you play them it’s hard not to trust what your eyes are telling you about who is elite and who is not.

Time will tell but our slow recruiting at this point isn’t surprising.

Another post about Banks to RB from Austin Price...

Wow had no idea this was in conversation. If he can't hold onto the ball it would make sense. He is so hyped up wanting to hit everyone and get the crowd juiced up. I'd hate to do it mid season though because he can help the offense if he would hold on to ball

Were stocked with “top 15 recruiting” talent. If Pruitt can’t get 7-8 wins out of this team what can he sell? He must beat two or three more SEC teams or he’ll never get off the ground IMO.

We knew the Kennedy loss was huge. We just didn't know how huge it was. I agree Carvin really could've used a redshirt year

Carvin looks like a bull fighter every game we play vs the big boys. Eyes get big. I would have liked to see how OL played if jahmir didn't get hurt. OL looked its best in run game early vs auburn then jahmir got hurt and we haven't had a positive run since
